Default running mac

It depends on what you want to use it for. I have been using macbook pro for the past two years and have been able to do almost everything that a PC can do. Regarding USMLE prep you may need a PC for doing practice test from usmle.org (since it is a .exe file which mac doesn't recognize).

If you need to run a windows program in a mac then there is an alternative. You can run a parallel desktop on a mac that actually runs windows on a mac. You can ask the apple store for more details.

Default Mac all the way

I second what Highlander said. I used a Mac throughout my study prep and the only thing I needed to use a windows machine for was for the free 150 from the USMLE website, for which I just borrowed someone else's station. If that's not possible for you then you can install parallels like Highlander suggested, or you can just skip the free 150 altogether. It isn't really that necessary.
