Does this look familiar to anyone? One week out from the exam - this is all I've seen for the last few weeks and all I'll see for the next. The computer is never off (wait 'till the next power bill) and there is a First Aid so tattered and overused that it's starting to look a little like the Dead Sea Scrolls. I'm slowly working my way through it for what seems like the 15,000th time (never as quickly as I intend) and I'm wondering if my obsessive compulsive annotating has turn my high yield text in a low yield encyclopaedia. I think it may be invading my dreams - if only I could sleep long enough to find out. Diagnosis Drs?
Oh man am I gonna smash a few brews Big Aussie style next Friday night!!!
Good stuff man...youll be done next week, i got about five weeks left myself...and i can't wait to drink into oblivion once this is over )
And i agree with your post, seems like its the millionth time I'm reading this damn first aid, yet I always find something new that i didn't know on the previous read
DTB: How good is it going to be when it is over! Get that big ugly monkey off your back. I've sat a lot of exams, but nothing like this ball breaker. I'm in oddly good spirits considering my subconscious keep nagging me to pay more attention to that lingering sense of impending doom. )
But hey, head down, @ss up and just reminder to keep your eye on the beer... errr prize.
You are not the only one...I have been having nightmares about the exam for the last 4 consecutive nights...Even though my exam is 7 months away...This exam is all about stress...
Good luck buddy..Its a normal feeling I also was in same situation a month ago bt after the exam go out and just get trashed my advice try to relax on the day before and try to go to bed early I was not able to sleep the whole nite but the adrenaline rush in the exam will never make u tired..Go kill the beast
Well… I sat the exam on Friday and man oh man was it tough. Felt significantly harder than any of the NBME or UW practice exams. This may simply be due to the fact it was 3 hours longer which just makes it a much more physical and mental marathon. I found my mind beginning to switch off in the last 3 sections and in about 3-4 sections I found myself very hastily finishing the last 10 questions due to time constraints – not something I’ve had trouble with in the past. However on the upside there were only a few questions that I couldn’t at least narrow down to 2-3 options.
The USMLE is a weird exam; everyone works so hard for it, which means regardless of its intrinsic high level of difficulty my NBME score of 85% still only gave me a 230. I think this can make it a bit hard to feel supremely confident following the actual exam because even if you are unsure of only a small portion of the exam you’re still scared that this will result in a ordinary grade. Something I’ve never had to worry about with other med exams.
But hey the only times I’ve ever done well on an exam is when I think I’ve screwed it – so fingers crossed on that front. I don’t actually have any friends in AA, but if I did I’m sure they would tell me to have “…the serenity to accept the things I cannot change…” )
but what do you mean by 3 hrs longer? Has the pattern been changed?
The question pool was expected to change around this time. Did you find any indications of that?
Oh man. I just got my score - about 6 weeks after sitting the exam. Nuts.
I got a 240!
Not the lofty 260's that I've been reading about, but a score I'm pretty happy about as I didn't leave the exam feeling too fantastic. In fact I left the exam hoping for a 215. Just goes to show that you can never tell, so keep your chin up... Happy-2
