USMLE Scores concern about my step 1 score: 216/85

Dear friends, I'm an IMG and my Step 1 score is 216/85. It was my first attempt. I'm quite afraid that it may be too low for an IMG to be considered for a residency. What if I will have an higher score at step 2? May I have any chance? thanks

That wont be necessary. The 2 digit score does not matter anymore...They will have to have a look at your 3 digit score.

it all depends what residency you want.

if you want something like radiation oncology, then yes its too low.
if you want something like family medicine or internal medicine, then you will be fine.

I've in mind Internal medicine or Pediatrics, since I could have letter of references in these two fields. Is the 2nd one more competitive than Internal Med? thanks drNick

2010 match usmle step 1 score averages for IMGs that matched:
- Pediatrics: 215 +/- 10
- Internal Med: 225 +/- 10
