Smile Muzzy Just took the Exam

Sup guys. I know a lot of you are freaking out about this exam as I was too.

This exam is doable! Be confident. Worrying and stressing out wont raise your score.

FA covers about 60-65% and is fairly EASY. 20% is going to require some thinking. 15-20% will make you feel like crap. Go in there expecting your not going to know everything.

The format is EXACTLY like UWorld. MOST of the questions are a bit EASIER than uworld.

On your last day go over he key findings, lab findings, equations in the back of first aid. DON’T do any SERIOUS studying, that will only make you more nervous.

The angiograms I had were almost exactly like the ones from this website. Make sure you take a look.

I never used web path so I can't speak for that. What I can tell you is that the website I posted has nearly the EXACT pictures from my exam (I'm not exaggerating). I would strongly recommend you take a look at the posterior communicating artery and the external/internal carotids (wink wink). I had a total of 2 angiograms, 1 MRI, 3-4 microscope slide, and 2 CT scans. As for heart sounds, I had 2 murmurs but I honestly didn't need to hear the murmur to answer the questions.

Secondly, if I had to do it all over again, I would probably do Kaplan. My main sources were First Aid and Uworld. I had a decent background considering I just finished my second year of med school so I didn't feel the need to go through all of Kaplan. I initially started doing DIT but I got really annoyed. I felt like the guy was just reading First Aid to me, which I thought was a waste of time. If DIT works for you, go for it, I don't have anything against it, I just think it didn't work for me.

I thought I learned the most from doing questions. Uworld is great. If you have the time to do it twice, do it. Make sure you read the explanations for your wrong and right answers (this will help with the 20% beka-CTS). The only difference between Uworld and the real exam is that Uworld may be a little harder. Which is obviously great for preparation.

@Muzzy...u took ure exam today or yesterday?

Also, as everyone is aware of, there have been "changes" to the question pool, did you think First Aid and UWorld covered the information well?

I took my exam Tuesday actually. I thought FA and Uworld covered 80% of my exam.

@Sukar...First aid (2012) covers Micro really well for the exam. Don't look at other sources for Micro. As for immuno I don't think its enough. I would refer to kaplan or another review book. If you have a strong background with immuno don't worry too much.

@irakly...as for the other 20% you may need kaplan or goljan path. I heard about half of Goljans lectures. The only problem with Goljan is that he goes into a lot of unnecessary detail. However I thought they were very helpful to understand concepts. Regardless you have to accept that may not know everything on your exam.

@5hstar...the only questions I did apart from Uworld were from the Kaplan Qbook. Although the Qbook is much easier than Uworld, there were a few questions on my exam that were very similar to the Qbook questions. If you can get your hands on usmle rx questions, do it, the more questions you do the higher your score. Overall I focused more on Uworld and I would suggest you do the same, I did Uworld twice actually. To answer your second question, I'm an american IMG. I did my undergrad here and then went to the Caribbean.

I think first aid is enough for the most part. HOWEVER I would strong advice you go over neuro anatomy in another review book. Your obviously not going to have time to go over all of Anatomy. I had mostly high yield anatomy on my exam such as ulnar nerve injury or common peroneal nerve injury and some very difficult neuro anatomy.

If I could tell you where exactly to find the 20% I would have posted it already. Its different for everyones exams. Im sure you will a few questions on your exam that will be insanely difficult but don't let that slow you down. I never did Kaplan but its possible they may fill in a few spots left behind from FA + Uworld.

Hey Hi! So i have exactly 9 days for my exam. M revising FA right now n listening goljan lectures (like 2 per day at a higher speed). I was wondering if i shd do uworld explanations,(i already did once, but i think i dint revise it that well!) at least for the incorrect ones in these 9 days and also if i shd write another NBME, i already wrote 12,13.

Thanks Muzzy!
