Cool

I think u must give a 2nd reading to ur material ALONG WITH A QUESTION BANK.......Also go through FA side by side......after this give a NBME.....see ur performance and work accordingly.......!!!!!

best of luck.......!!!

I think it all depends upon you on how good do you feel about your first reading starting a Q bank will make you realise how strong your concepts are if you are not confident then start revising the areas you are weak in along with the FA and keep doing q bank along with it.
Good Luck

So which NBME test I take at this level?Shall I take this test only after I finish my second reading?
And how much time do u think it will take to do a Q bank at an average?I plan on doing Kaplan q bank.

I did not do kaplan qbank so dont know about the time it will take but try to finish it in 2 months maximum...it depends on ur speed and the time u can devote everyday.....no need to do any NBME now...do it after 2nd read......!!

One block of Kaplan Qbank (46 ques in Random timed mode) takes between 3-4 hours to answer and review. UW takes an hour longer.
There are approx 2225 questions in KBank and ~2100 ques in UW.
Now calculate according to how much time you can give to your question banks everyday.

My!!There is awfully lot of time to be spent on the Q bank!!

So if I start my Q bank...what should be my score to make me safe? And what score is considered bad?

Qbanks are a learning tool, therefore they take so much time. Actually answering is not the issue nor the scores on these QBanks.
If you want to assess yourself, you'll have to take the Self Assessment/ Simulation Tests that come with these banks that show you where you stand.
The best predictors of Step scores are NBMEs.

Anyways, go through the forum and you'll realize that a lot of high scorers were not able to do more than 70-75% of their Qbanks yet did quite well.

Good luck!
Ultimately you are the final judge of what is going to work best for you. Do at least one question bank with your second pass.

Hey, I'm on the same stage as drst, as in, I've just finished my first read and am about to start second. My question is, that if the KQ bank has SO many questions, should we really spend a lot of time on reading the Kaplan text? Since we'll be reviewing it all in the Qbank anyways?

I've also completed my first read ~10 days back and have posted my schedule thereafter in my posts Test Aug 29: 13 Wks to go: next 7 days' schedule and Test Aug 29: 14 Wks to go: next 7 days' schedule.
Have a look. I'm planning to give Step 1 in End Aug or early Sep. See if it helps you.
