Smile MohitKMC Done with Step 1

Got my result this week was little bit dissapointed got 236/84. I will try to do better in CK.
It was a tough journey for me with the internship and some family problems which tried to push me back but I am grateful to GOD to provide me the strength to keep working.
I am really thankful to this forum also for all the help. It was one of my best companion in my whole step 1 journey.
I will be more then happy to help anyone needing help.

Books I used:
Anatomy: High yield neuroanatomy, high yield anatomy, Kaplan Lecture Notes, Kaplan videos
Biochemistry: Kaplan LN, Kaplan videos
Physiology: BRS Physio by Costanzo and Kaplan LN, Kaplan videos
Pathology: Goljan RRS + Goljan audios (Definitely listen to them it will make pathology easy)
Behavioral Sciences: BRS BS, Kaplan videos (Guys Make sure u do the videos the guy is amazing)
Microbiology and Immunology: Kaplan LN and Videos
Pharmacology: Kaplan LN and videos (I loved Raymond he makes pharmacology really easy)

I annotated the Kaplan notes into FA and also the U world.
FA is a really good review book and I think if you understand the concepts in it you can cover around 70-80% of exam questions.

I also did DIT once along with FA.

My U world aggregate 1st time was 67% all in random timed mode then just repeated the wrong questions.
I also did Kaplan Qbank offline along with my first reading (except for patho because of lack of time).

I gave NBME 11 online 20 days to exam got 232 did the rest all NBME offline did not wanted to spend more money.
My advice to all will be whatever you read just make sure you understand the concept lying behind it because in the exam only the concepts will help you.

Good luck.

Will be happy to answer your questions

Immuno was tested heavily in my exam and it was bit tough i will suggest do kaplan if possible but around 80% of immuno questions were covered by FA.
FA is enough for biochem but not for genetics try to do kaplan qbank questions for them.
Good Luck

Yes I only did 11 online it showed me my weak areas like BS and Musculoskeltal I worked on it and I got star in them.So work on your weak areas after that NBME.
I will suggest give online if you score fine in it then do other offline and try to get above 170 correct out of 200.

FA do cover but I will suggest u to do atleast GIT,Abdomen and THORAX from some other source because FA do not cover them.
Also make sure you know UL and LL cold especially the nerve injuries.

Do MHC class 1 ans MHC class 2 and there mechanism of functioning properly,
make sure you understand where are each class of receptors present.
Do all IL and thier function and also the immunodeficiency diseases.
Atleast these should be done from kaplan properly. I will suggest you to write down the things not written in FA from kaplan when u do them so that u have all in one source
Good Luck

Hi,

You said you were doing your internship while preparing for the exam. How did you plan your day and how much were you able to cover each day? How long did it take you to finish everything till the point you were satisfied with yourself and felt exam-ready?

I have a "killer" clerkship year coming up and although I feel well-versed with the concepts for this exam, I am far from exam-ready. I don't want to delay my clerkship so I was wondering if it is at all possible to squeeze in a few hours of studying (with questions) after spending almost twelve taxing hours at the hospital? I wanted to do this for a few months, then take a month or two off sometime during the year, do a hard-core review and take the exam. What do you think? Is it a practical idea? It would be nice to know how you managed.

Thanks in advance.

I think buddy you have a right plan. Try to read in the free time whatever u get and definitely doing questions is a good idea. I used to carry my MP3 player all the time which had the goljan audios it proove to be very beneficial to me. 2 months of exclusive review in the end I think will be more than enough do atleast one NBME at that time it can help you decide if you are ready.
Also during your clerkship whenever you to do question do it in random time mode and be very critical of every block u make about which topics u think are weak and revise them before continuing thats how I did my U world used to find out my weak areas after 2-3 blocks for eg if I felt I am doing many questions wrong in pharma in neurology then I will review it before going further so U world was both learning and evaluation tool for me.
Keep working but I will suggest dont go for exam till you feel you are ready and after doing U world I think you will feel more confident and ready to go for exam.
Good Luck

wow! congratulations on your score, your hard work paid off! Could you please give me some guidance based on your experience, I've booked my exam for July 25. Prior to this i've complete one round of Uworld with 65% and going to start uworld for the second time. I did 3 nbmes, (forum 6) 196, (forum 7) 200 and (forum 3) 210. What can i do now to help me prepare and write the exam on this date? I plan to do DIT soon.

It all depends how well u know goljan from your first reading...If u are short of time try to read your weak areas from goljan and the side blue margin notes it will be enough. FA and U world covers most of the topics for pathology so if u dont have much time u can stick to it.
Also definitely listen to goljan audios with the audio notes
Good Luck

DIT with FA will help u to increase your score...U are on a right track do U world 2nd time..But at this stage try to figure out what subjects in NBME are weak and review them. Be very critical with the NBME try to figure out if the questions u did wrong were due to lack of knowledge then brush up those topics but if its just that u dont remember things the DIT will help you to memorise from FA and then giving a reading of FA will make u read to go...I think you can give the exam on July 25th..
Good Luck

Mohitkmc,

Congrats on your score, and more importantly congrats on pulling through despite the problems and internship! Makes you a big achiever!

May I ask how heavily should one rely on Kaplan? I have done it once, and after having forgetting most of it, I'm scared to go through it again. I am def. going to do it, but wanted to know just how crucial is it to do it well? Cause after all, FA is going to be our final Book. Thanks for helping us

I will suggest you to start doing Q bank now like U world or kaplan Q bank now and see where u stand if you think you need to brush up some topics then review them from kaplan otherwise stick to FA and add the weaker areas u have from kaplan to FA so in the end you will just have to stick to single book.
I will suggest you to even add notes from U world into FA it may take time but will be worth in the end.
Good Luck

You are doing really good. I think u should start U world in random time mode it will help u mimic it like exam. If u dont like it then you can continue it subject wise. U have a great plan and I am sure you will score good
