Help Motivation help/Advice

Hey guys,

I take step 1 on June 16th. Up until the past couple of days I have been so motivated and staying on task, which recently has been doing 3 blocks of UW/day and reviewing those explanations. Since the past few days, my motivation to study has gone way down for some reason, which I know should NOT be going on since my exam less than 3 weeks.

These dang thoughts are starting to creep into my mind and make me feel unprepared or that time has already virtually run out to make any real improvement b/w now and the 16th. I have done DIT once with FA, and am about 75% finished with UW. It seems like I can only study for 10 minutes, and get so distracted.

I also don't know what to do...I plan on finishing UW in about a week, but know I should also be going over FA as much as humanly possible. Time seems to be the factor for me as I spend pretty much all day going over 3 blocks/questions each day for UW. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Seems like ur brain is simply exhausted. The best thing for you to do is take a day off, get out and do something fun and completely unrelated to ur studies for a day. Get a goodnights sleep, without thinking about the usmle.

It might seem like a bad idea to spend a whole day away from ur prep. But, in cases such as this it's a must. Don't burn yourself out by pushing too hard, that'll just mean spending pointless hours in front of ur notes or questions and not getting anything in.

take a break buddy

I think I'm starting to have doubts mainly because I've only gone over FA once. But, when I do UW and write out my explanations and stuff, I feel like I am learning it. I just read how everyone goes over FA 2+ times with months left, and I just doubt that my strategy is working well...is it normal to doubt like this so soon to the exam?

u sound like me.. i too get easily distracted..

i think u r just tired.. try to do 2 blocks per day.. u will b done by june 8th uworld.. since u have already done 75% questions.. u r only left with 500 qns i guess...this will give u sometime to go over FA each day..

also regarding how many times u do the FA read.. i think it does not matter... as long as u understand the concept.. u will do fine on the exam....

dont worry u will do well on the exam.. good luck studying...

I agree, you should take a day off! And daily spend some time on this forum reading other people's posts, that really helps me going. I know it might sound like a lot of wastage of time but you would actually be working more efficiently. Also have loads of chocolate! Best of Luck!

Make a day-by-day schedule. Or schedule an nbme at the end of the week. That should keep you going.
