Question Nernst equation?

do we need to know the nernst equation and how to use it????? i mean i dont even remember what LOG means and how to calculate log stuff!! i mean its been like 6 yrs since i had a maths class!
and this equation is so crazy anyway!
do we hv to knw it fr the exam??

Well, I've never heard of it being directly asked on an exam in a way such as you being given some numbers and asked to calculate the potential. I think what's important is to understand the way membrane potentials are generated. I'd say actually understanding the flow of ions in and out of a cell during an action potential would be much higher yield than just memorizing the equation, but that's just my opinion.
