Planning 15 days Left !! Here's my plan

So I have 15 days left to my exam. Here is an update and my study plan for the next 15 days.

- I took NBME 12 on June 4th and scored 430/205.
- I plan on taking the next NBME (11 or 13, haven't decided yet) sometime next week.
- I have about 500 HY Questions left from Kaplan Qbank and I've been scoring around 70% so far. Still on my first pass of the Qbank. I need help in Gross Anatomy and Cardiovascular. I am doing pretty decent in everything else but constantly missing questions in these two topics.

Now here's my overall plan -

Monday, June 11th - DIT/FA 2nd pass + 1 block of Qbank.
(hope to finish DIT+FA+Qbank by June 20th to 22nd - about 10-12 days)

Then the remaining time of about 2-3 days, I will focus on my weak areas, list of forgettables, review the NBME's, free 150 questions, Images, DIT/FA weak areas.

Here's what I need help with -

1) What can I use for Cardiovascular and Gross Anatomy to improve in those two areas ?
2) Which NBME should I take next - 11 or 13 ?
3) Do you think I should include anything else in my plan ? For example, Pathoma 2nd pass, Goljan, webpath etc ?
4) Should I do the Kaplan 7-hour simulated exam?!

Thanks for all your help and advice in advance. It's been a long journey and everyone on here has definitely helped out BIG TIME!

Is this the end of your extended eligibility period? If not, I strongly suggest you work first on your weak areas before going for the exam. Be on the safe side. Go for it when you're in the 220's (nbmes) and above. The last 2 weeks, in my opinion, should be an overall recap -- not still working on weak areas.

1. Gross Anatomy --> Do it topic-wise in Kaplan qbank and UW. Cardio --> Do system-wise in UW.

2. Take nbme 11. Nbme 13 should be taken when you're ready for the exam.

3. Do just FA + UW notes and DIT notes. Review past nbmes.

4. No. If you want to simulate, do your next nbme + 3 blocks of random kaplan qbank mcqs. Alternatively, do an nbme + uwsa or do 2 nbmes.

Good luck, good friend. See you in the next forum next month. LOL!

Any chance of re paying your fees?

Not trying to be a dick man, but you already have 1 attempt...anything less then mid 220s and upwards is not good enough....i know its hard losing the money but you have to look towards what will give you the best chance at landing residency....as you probably read in the other thread i just cancelled my exam due to my nbme scores being around 200....sucks losing 800 dollars but its worth it...getting anything less then 220 will make it VERY hard to get any residency...just my opinion...

It's not a matter of money anymore. I've spent so much for med school, another 1000 won't hurt. BUT I am really getting fatigued and I've reached a peak where its all on the line for this next attempt. If I pass then good, I carry on with med school...If not, then...well, I don't know, we'll see May be medicine is not for me then.

I was doing pretty decent in the Kaplan Qbank for the past couple days. Today is one of those baddddd days for questions! I'm getting close to 55-60 percent! Man, the closer I get to this exam now, the more worrisome it gets. I'll update after the next NBME.

I have a question -

I don't know if its the stress of the exam as it gets closer or the fact that I've failed it once and the thought of failing it again just doesn't escape my mind. But I feel like I'm forgetting everything and don't remember anything!

I've been doing questions for a little less than a week now and did around 500 questions this week. Starting DIT Monday. I might take an NBME tonight just to see if doing questions this week helped me or not.

Anyways, this time is crucial now, just 2 weeks left! so I've got to keep pushing through and come out on top. Hopefully, everything is still there and its just a feeling of "forgetting everything".

Why do u say NBME 13 should be taken when ur ready for the exam? I have not taken a single NBME yet, exam in on july30th. and NBME 13 is the first NBME i plan on taking! IS it a bad idea? should i take NBME 7instead?

As far as cardiovascular is concerned, reading BRS physio might help you. It wont take a lot of time. I read 3 chapters(cardio, respi and the action pot/muscle etc). it really helped me. U can do the cardio chapter in a few hours. Hope it helps!

Update:

- NBME 11 - 420/203

One week after NBME 12 and dropped by 10 points! But I found this NBME to be harder than NBME 12. Well I guess it's okay. Gotta keep going.

- Reviewing NBME 11 now
- Going to start DIT 2nd pass and hopefully finish it in 10 days or so.
- Next NBME - end of this week or early next week.

Any advice and suggestions are welcome.

No. That's the thing. It showed different weak areas as NBME 12! I hit the wrong side of the graph on MSK! Hopefully my 2nd pass of DIT gives me a big jump like last time!

Thanks. Yeah I'm gonna watch it all at 1.5x and read FA along with it. I think I can get it done in 10 days. And no I haven't taken NBME 13 yet. I will be taking that next weekend or early next week. That way NBME 7 would be the last NBME I take right before my exam.

I hope I have enough time! I am hoping to finish DIT + uworld by July 6 and then Review/memorize again.
I rebooked my exam for late july. Hopefully I am ready by then.. As the time gets closer I am getting scared/nervous/mixed emotions.. lol!
For sure I will let you... "the good-people-of-the-forums" know it goes
You let us know how it goes as well... And if u suddenly decide to create another thread let me know Though I would like to stick to this...

Islandcrazy - Like H2P said I am not sure if the questions were directed towards me or H2P. I only did NBME 6 online in beginning/mid may. I am planning on doing another NBME next week. I want to do 7,11, 12, 13 depending on the time and If I do have the time then I will do UWSA closer to the exam..

- Reviewing NBME 11 now
- Going to start DIT 2nd pass and hopefully finish it in 10 days or so.
- Next NBME - end of this week or early next week.

Any advice and suggestions are welcome.
Id probably chuck dit at this point and concentrate on the three ps....use dit for micro and embryo if you have to use it...good luck man

Thanks.

I think I'm going to continue doing DIT. I was able to finish 4 videos + 50 questions yesterday. So I think if I do 1.5 days of DIT in 1 day, it'll take me 10 days to finish DIT along with FA and 1 block of Questions/day. That will give me about 3 days after to go over everything or anything else that I want to go over. I guess I won't have time to do Pathoma again though

Hi! Sorry, I just saw your question now. I must have overlooked it a few days ago...

How many nbmes are you planning to take? Is it only 7 and 13?

If you plan on taking forms 7 and 13 only, take 13 first and then 7. But don't take 13 too close (less than 2 weeks) to the exam. If it's too close to the exam, there will be a tendency that you'll be too scared to take it.

If you plan on doing forms 11 and 12 too, take them first before 7 and 13. Forms 11 and 12 are easier. There's no point in taking 13 ahead of them. The idea is... you should be improving as your exam is getting closer. So you should be taking harder and harder nbmes. Doing the opposite (hard to easy), will make you think you're improving when you're, in fact, not. Plus, you'd want to take the hardest nbme when you're at your peak -- after you've worked on weak areas as seen in other nbmes, etc.

Also, take forms 5 and 6 first to "test the water". I suggest you take 7, 11, 12 and 13 only when you know you'll get a 99. From there, use them to monitor progress within the 99 range (230-260+). Good luck!

I'll be taking my exam on June 20. Can't wait to go to the beach after!

One thing I should've done during prep: do sit-ups every morning. If I did, maybe by now I have abs. LOL! Abs will really look good in swimwear pictures...

Guys,

How do I stay AWAKE while doing the 2nd pass of DIT ?

I started DIT on Tuesday and did 4 videos. Yesterday I didn't do any videos coz every time I turned on the video I fell asleep. I just did questions yesterday instead. I am doing DIT again today but its making me so sleepy I cant even open my eyes. How do you stay up and watch videos without taking an extended break ? I know my exam is in less than 15 days which should push me to watch the videos but they're making so sleepy lol

Coffee and energy drinks ? I don't want to have too much of those..

HI Hope to pass, just few things i would like to say.....
you have worked so hard, right? i know we get tensed during our exam period but just think u don't want to ruin all your hard work and efforts because of single thought. worst you know what will happen(it won't happen have belief in your self) but best is in your hands pull yourself together. and give it a try without any fear as if you have nothing to loose and then see you will do your best.

We suffer more from imagination than from reality.
Glory is not about rising its about rising everytime you fall.
good luck have belief in yourself.

Thanks aj23 and Dr.Nitin. Good advice. I think washing your face with cold water just wakes you up instantly! I do that every now n then but sometimes I forget. And Dr.Nitin's advice is good! Just gotta think of how far I've come and how little time is left to where I want to go! Gotta Keep on keepin' on!

Oh yeah for sure. I'm leaving NBME 13 & 7 to do after DIT.

Right after I finish DIT I will do NBME 13.
Then take 2 days to review some material and then take NBME 7.
Then chill out and take my exam lol

Cool. Thanks for sharing. It's sorta like CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome). I didnt read the whole thing but I think these are all diagnosis of exclusion right?

Some weird syndromes out there man. You guys heard of bath salts - the new drug on the market. That will be appearing in FA and step 1 very soon! It makes people insanely violent (way more that pcp). I think that was one of the reasons of the cannibal attack in Miami, FL where a guy ate the face of another guy ... Literally !!

Ye some syndromes are weird..
Apparently there was this one girl who slept in april and just woke up now.. Because of the syndrome she missed abt 9 of her exams. It was on some news yesterday...
I saw the news abt the man eating the other man's face.. I didn't know it was bath salts... However, it was GROSSS!!!

Hey guys

Do you think I should go over DIT completely a 2nd time through? I'm doing it now but its very boring. I'm on Day 5. I don't know if I should go over all of it or just stick to my weak areas ? Or should I just do whatever I can till the 21st (that's my goal to finish DIT) but for that to happen, I have to do 2 days or 6 videos of DIT per day and then do some questions as well

Thanks

Doing DIT is torture. If someone tied me to a chair and made me watch it the second time, I'll go kill myself. Probably, I'll chew my tongue off until I bleed to death (since my hands will be tied in this hypothetical scenario). That's how much I won't watch DIT for the 2nd time. LOL!

That being said, I guess you know what I think about your question on DIT 2nd pass.

I'd rather run into a herd of zombies and get myself eaten alive than go through a 2nd pass. But do what makes you happy. LOL!
