Hey, I'm not a female but I'm attending the same course. Just wanted to say hi. I haven't found accommodation yet either. Let me know if you find anyone looking, and I'll do the same.

Hi everyone, I will be taking Kaplan step 1 Live prep in New York city and would greatly appreciate if you can share your thoughts about the course with me and more importantly how did you find an accommodation at the end? I have trouble finding one, probably timing (just after the NYE) makes it even harder.
Did you have any of those lectures during the prep you took? I couldn't find thoughts about most of them, it would be great if you have some:
Anatomy: Stefan, Cristian
Biochemistry: Lane, Roger
Physiology: Noto, Frank
Genetics/Immunology: Alley, Tiffany
Microbiology: Moscatello, Kim
Behavioral/Statistics: Fadem, Barbara
Pathology: Barone, John
Pharmacology: Davis, Craig
As far as I know, the last three on the list should be good.
Thank you and happy studying!

Yo! I'm going to help you with what I can since I'm already five weeks in, and wish someone had told me these things before I started.

First of all, accommodation. Completely depends on your budget. If you give me a number, I can tell you where to look. After NYE is the best timing. The worst timing is right now, when EVERYONE wants to see the stupid tree get lit and all that holiday lighting jazz. My landlord is asking if I know any doctors/med students who want to take my place after I leave, but then again, I need to know your budget. The only downside to my place is the 50 minute commute.

We had someone else for Physio and Biochem, but the rest of the roster is solid. They're all very accomplished professors and all YOU have to do is stay alert and concentrate, and you'll walk away with a lot. You get a break every hour, and that's your chance to ask questions in person.

Give yourself time to review things before you go to class OR revise them afterwards. One or the other, you won't have time for both. You make time by pre-planning your meals and chores. Don't spend too much time partying or exploring the city. It's a gaping vortex of a sinkhole, and once you get sucked in, you're gone. This is the only thing that has hurt me, or so I feel. Don't hook up with people in your class. Seriously. It's a city with 800,000 people. Leave the 150 alone or it'll be very awkward for the rest of the 7 weeks.

Google Maps is your best friend. A good subway map in your phone is your second best friend. I use "New York Subway", it's pretty basic, shows the map and service status. Seamless/GrubHub and Uber are also essential.

Get good winter shoes. Do not worry about how they look.

Houston Street is pronounced "HOW-stun" ALL throughout the city for some odd reason.

I don't know what else to tell you. Do you have any specific questions?

Hey, I have your number. You should delete this post ASAP because this is a public forum and everybody can see your number. That's not safe.

I'll message you soon.

Hi, follow the suggestions that mhass24 mentioned above! Those are all good advices. I would highly suggest that you go through all Kaplan lecture notes (even better if you can do it twice) before your course starts in July. That way following live lectures will be much easier and you can spend time after each class doing questions and not reading the books. Good luck!
