Skin Lacy body rash

6yr old girl presents to EM department with a fever and a lacy body rash. Her mother says yesterday rash was only on her face, but by this morning, had spread to her trunk and extremities. Which of the following agent is mostly likely causative?

A) measles
B) HHV-6
C) rubella
D) B19
E) Varicella Zoster Virus

HHV-6?
lacy body rash is the buzz word for exanthema subitum... but then the fever must go down before the rash appears... she is presenting with both...

review Q from Kaplan notes..

@sharma: even I that it as HHV-6 ..in B-19 Explanation was lacy body rash preceded by facial rash with fever in school aged child.. Where as HHV-6(rosella) which is fever followed by lacy body rash in infants. but Kaplan didnt mention about lacy body rash in B19 infectio

rubella erythema tours rashes begin on forehead.

Measles maculo-papular rashes below ears

Oh i thought it was rubella too! btw isnt the forehead also a part of the face?? God these questions are so tricky!

For HHV6 I believe they would have to give you a history of VERY HIGH fevers and/or seizures associated

its from kaplan book...i remember now... i got it wrong then too... yup.. HHV6 causes roseola INFANTUM!!! how could i miss that even the second time!!
