Thyroid Thyroid Enlargement in Pregnancy

A 24-year-old woman in her first trimester of pregnancy complains of heat intolerance. Physical examination shows an enlarged, nontender thyroid gland. Thyroid function studies show a serum thyroxine (T4) level of 14 μg/dL and a serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level of 3 μU/mL. Which of the following best explains the results of these studies?

A. Decreased peripheral conversion of T4 to triiodothyronine (T3)
B. Increased release of T4 from acute thyroiditis
C. Increased synthesis of T3
D. Increased synthesis of T4
E. Increased synthesis of thyroid-binding globulin (TBG)

I know the answer but am confused as to the reasoning for it..anyone care to explain?

I believe the answer to be E. Estrogen increases the synthesis of protein which increases the amount of T4 bound. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I took the step July 1st and don't know if I forgot everything, lol
