Out of the 4 NBME13 takers I know,2 scored NBME+around 10. One scored 20 points more(this person took it nearly 15 out) and the last one scored 5 points less.

If you're unsure, perhaps you should consider doing one of 7,11 or 12.

Theoretically, all NBME's are normalized, standardized, and pretty much predict the same thing.

However, most people I know who took NBME 13 (whether from the forum or real life), have all scored higher than NBME 13 in their real exam.

Do another NBME online and you will get a more accurate prediction.

My experience was different. I took NBME 13 day before my exam. But on my actual exam, I scored 16 points lower. I thought NBME 13 was much easier than the actual exam. But then again, I didn't get much sleep night before the exam. Maybe that's a possible explanation for the huge gap...

I think NBME 13 is pretty close to the real thing. I personally found NBME 13 hard though!! I hope the real exam is easier than that!:sorry:

20 points..???..thats a really huge gap
going by this wide variation, if feel the final exam score depends on the last few weeks of preparation and how u handle yourself in the last leg.....

You should of told us your score from the beginning. A score in the 250's range on NBME 13 would have shut all of us up.

Proceed forward with no fear. You are more than ready.

Good luck

My NBME 13 score 11 days ago was a 254, and I felt good while I was taking the test. I put in 10 more days of hard studying (10-14 hours per day), and took the actual test yesterday. I'm not sure what happened, but I felt like the real test was much more difficult than NBME 13. based on the majority of posts on this thread, it seems like NBME 13 underpredicted most people, but I would be shocked if this were the case for me. Hoping for a generous curve

I would say that the biggest difference between NBME 13 and the real test was question length. The questions were a lot longer, a lot more convoluted, and time was much more of an issue. My first 2 blocks went very smoothly. After that, I was still hitting stretches of 8-15 questions at a time that I felt pretty confident about, but then I was also hitting stretches of 2-3 questions at a time that were totally out of left field. When I say out of left field I mean they weren't questions where you say to yourself "I know this is in FA/Golijan/Pathoma...I should have learned this better." They were questions where you say to yourself "I've never seen this before and I don't know how I could have prepared for this question." I also felt that there were a lot of questions with simple questions stems and straightforward clinical vignettes, but then the answer that you were looking for wasn't there, and you had to pick the best of two not-so-good answers instead.

My best advice would be to devote significant time in your last 1-2 weeks on time/test management. In my last week and a half of prep I switched to tutor mode in questions so that I could plow through as much material as possible. This may have hurt me in the end. Spend time in your last week finding that balance between not giving up on a question too soon, and getting bogged down in bad/weird questions. Also, realize that questions are going to be very long, and for a lot of them you will spend most of your time figuring out what the question is actually asking you. I took a short break after every questions block. I think thats the best strategy. Step out after every block, if only for a few minutes, clear your head, and do whatever it is that you have to do to digest what happened in the last block, and get yourself motivated for the next block.

Like I said, the real test seemed a lot more difficult than NBME 13, but that could also be because every unsure question/mistake seems amplified when you know it's the real thing.

As far as my prep:

- I started with DIT months ago to lay a foundation
- Then I did pathoma with the videos
- Then I went back through FA making PowerPoint flashcards for everything that I was having trouble remembering and pathoma w/o videos
- Then I did Kaplan biochem with videos (because that was my one real remaining problem area I had)
- Then I went through FA one more time with my PowerPoint flashcards as well as pathoma again
- Over the course of my studies I did Uworld once, 50% of Kaplan questions, and about 25% of Combank (I'm an osteopathic med student)

Good luck to you guys, and thank you for your messages. Remember--> focus on time/test managment and move quickly!
