Info

Christmas tree/maypole/applepeel/Type3b intestinal atresia

- Accounts for approximately 5% of all intestinal atresia. It is often familial, and an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance has been suggested

-consists of duodenal or high jejunal atresia associated with small bowel absence of mesentery & prearterial arcade of superior mesenteric artery

-resulting appearence of small bowel coming strainght off from cecum and twisted around a marginal artery or around left branch of ileocolic artery suggesting the appearence of apple peel/christmas tree appearence(as in fig attached)

-associated anomalies include occular and microcephaly.

hope that helps
