Default GVHD--need some help

FA 2012 pg 239....it says GVHD is beneficial in bone marrow transplant????
i dont understand here....can any1 explain this one??

This statement is incomplete in FA.Actually it should have been,beneficial in BM transplant in leukemic patients.The thing is that in pts of leukemia like ALL,when BM transplant is done without prior chemotherapy to the transplanted specimen,the Donor T cells proliferate and attack the host lymphocytes.This is taken advantage of in haematological malignancies like ALL.The donor lymphocytes destroy the diseased Host lymphocytes(cancerous cells)and thus could prove beneficial in these cases.Hope I made it clear.
