Biochemistry I need help with biochem. Weak area!

I suck at biochem, had a terrible teacher so i did what i needed to do to get by but didn't really understand the concepts.

I'm starting KLN for biochem this coming week and i wanted to know if any of you have some advise as to how i can tackle biochem?

What should i really focus on?

any supplemental material i can use?

Any help will be appreciated.

Kaplan LN is the best review book for STEP1 in market , everything you need to know and can be tested on is in there almost..

however how you handle it is what makes the difference. I suggest doing the Metabolism in a way that you can integrate between the different pathways. For example i made an integrated flow sheet of all metabolic pathways on just one sheet of large paper along with key enzymes and their co-factors. I could review whole metabolism in just a couple of hours because of it.

for genetics doing practice questions is very important especially kaplan qbank's questions, After you are done with Kaplan LN you can use FA as well, as it summarizes all you need to memorize in biochem , hope it helps, Good luck with your preparation.

I am starting Biochem today...Hope it goes well.
My Plan is to watch the Kaplan videos first and then give it a read in lectures along with Kaplan Qbank Online ( I have bought Subscription)....and then give it a second read with UWorld.

Is molecular biology part of Biochemistry ?And must it be done before biochem? Thanks

I feel you because I'm weak in biochem too. For the biochem part of step 1, a combination of Kaplan biochem + FA + Uworld would be very potent. Focus on the more clinical aspects as they are high yield. Go with those reviewers several times. As for myself biochem is one of the last subjects I revised before I took step 1 and thankfully i did well. Just focus and you'll also do well.

I think kaplan is amazing and just follow it up later with DIT! its more than enough and for genetics i used lange biochem cue cards which are a really good way of just reviewing the disorders all throught biochem which is wht you should focus on.
