after second year itself. get kaplan notes and videos and start preparing in second year. You will easily pass your university exams if u will have proper command over goljan's patho and rest of other kaplan's material.

take the exam after you 2nd year exams, that is in 3rd year. 3rd year is very chilled out with the syllabus whic is not even half of second, so you can easily take 3-4 months for full blown prep in start of 3rd year and take the exam by say april-may.

I made a mistake of not realizing all this in my second year, prepared for step 1 in 3rd year and took it this year in june and i am in final year. Now i am literally dying out of the course load and all the backlog i have created due to step 1 prep.

Best Of Luck

It depends on where you live. If you can come delhi. Go to nai sarak (new road- its just the name) its in old delhi near to chandni chowk.
You can buy photocopied of all kaplan notes
Videos you can download or you can buy for there only (26 videos) around 20GB. (I bought those DVDs from there as its difficult to download these stuff).
You can buy goljian rapid review too from same place.
I bought all these materials from sagar book depot but you can go and check other places. I am not advertising about that shop.

i am from kolkata and study in under west bengal university of health sciences. i will definitely search for those books. but is usmle all about mcq s ? i mean the step 1.and does the question need too much of conception or are they superficial? and one last question which subjeccts should i study more? i mean i am very weak in anatomy and i hate reading it. can i skip this subject?

and lastly thanks a ton.

1.May be you can get all study stuff in kolkata too but i am not sure about that.

2. Ya USMLE is divided in step1, step2 CK,CS, step3. All consist of MCQs and CS,CCS (part of step3) are kinda practical viva with clinical settings.

3. Ya questions are more about mechanism, concepts and clinical scenarios. If you cover all kaplan notes and First aid with question practice. You will be good to go.

4. Everyone don't like some or other subject. I don't like any subject of step1 except patho. Anatomy is kinda low yield in USMLE and they really don't ask very precise details of snell's anatomy book or BD chaurisia. So going through kaplan anatomy notes will be enough(with First aid off-course).

Read some more posts in this forum or other forums you will have a brief idea that what should you study and what u shouldn't.
Anyways best of luck.

Ok...look lots of kolkataians here. ;-)
Khub bhalo
I bought Kaplan notes and FA for my friend and sent him to andhra pardesh. It was all together 10kgs and it cost be around 2500-2500rs including the postage charges. So if it's more expensive in Kolkata then u can tell some one who is in Delhi or the book store person to mail those stuff in ur address.

It's possible. But you will have to work really hard once your 3rd year exams are over till June. Try to finish goljan and one one more subject till october mid this year. Then you will be all set

typical indian med student has no clue why he's doing medicine in the first place!!!!!!
usmle requires planning and consistent hard work... how many students are willing to do that?
and of course if you have a quota here, why would you want to struggle so much anyway... !!

ur welcome..!
sorry i dont know much about ICMR etc.
im too busy with step 1 prep and med school exams for now to think about research which is a time consuming affair.
I might do it later only if it carries significant weightage;which i dont think it should coz ICMR is not all that well known in the US.
Do ask someone who's already got accepted.

but i learnt in one of the blogs that if any one has a research project attached to the CV then it does carry a relative value, and also since we haven't done any electives from US...
Please also tell where to study Behavioral Sciences from as this subject appears to be a bit allien..

electives are much more imp than research, almost indespensible.Have you graduated? if not; options are still open.
BS is given well in kaplan... Steven Daughtery teaches
too well

you're still an intern which means you havent graduated yet, I strongly suggest you look for some elective.
You can do obsreverships after ur internship too, but I dont know the details since I'm only in the 3rd year as of now.
check the electives page on this website.

since uve passed mbbs u r definitely not eligible for icmr; since its only for students. I think the only other way to boost your CV is to have great step 1-2 scores!!
