Default Why is AR pupil in tertiary syphilis ?

Hey guys,
Anyone have an idea about the location of the defect in argyl robertsonion pupil, and how would it happen? I have seen this once on uw, but I don't remember it.

I saw a question in usmlerx qbank;it's primary lesion is at the pretectal nucleus.

Ar pupil - in neurosyphilis, lesion in pretectal nuclei.. Also seen in multiple sclerosis, pineal tumor, or tabes dorsalis
