Default Usmle books or Kaplan series?

Hi guys.Hope you 're doing fine with your study program.

I have read many threads referring to which books are essential for usmle step1 success.Your forum is really helpful. So,i would like you to tell me your personal opinion about my dilemma.

I am currently a second year medschool student in a european country and i have decided that i want to take usmle step 1 in about a year from now. Therefore,i have started gathering information as far as the necessary books are concerned.I am doing quite well at medschool right now,so i guess my background is pretty good.In your opinion,do you think that i need to start by reading KLN and watching their DVDs or reading review books-best in each category-would be the best thing to do?

Ps I am kinda disappointed because i have recently watched some of Kaplan Videos and i thought they were just not for me.It's not my favorite type of studying..I would rather use books. However, every one claims that only by using them, you can achieve a great score. Is that really true? Please answer.

Ya you are medical student and you are going though all those step 1 topics. So my recommendation would be go through kaplan books only and if you find any topic or something which you can't understand or don't have any details then you can look those topics in kaplan videos or youtube.
Normally kaplan videos are for graduates who have done those subjects long before and don't remember some of precise details.
So you can go through Kaplan notes except patho. For patho you can use goljian's rapid review (i personally recommend) or pathoma (new book on market good too).
In my school i didn't had much of behavior science topics classes. So if you have trouble reading kaplan behavior sciences you can see videos. They are good and explanatory.
After these Do first aid (golden book but bit weird book for step 1). Why weird- its too precise to do sometimes. and At last Usmle World qbank (ideal qbank for usmle exams).
In short:
Kaplan notes (with or without videos), minus pathology
goljian or pathoma
First aid
Usmle world
and at last few NBME's to check where you stand.

There are few other qbank out in market. People have mixed opinion about them. I think doing more and more questions is best for any kinda exam. So it totally depends on you.
Hope i answered most of your question.
