Default Retaking Step 1! Qbank?

Hey everyone,
I will be retaking my step 1 in 2 months now, I had failed by a few points the first time. My questions is I had used UW the first time and even completed most of it and had taken notes on it. I wanted to know if I should try a different qbank like Usmlerx? Or should I stick to UW and finish it but I am just worried some of the questions are going to be familiar this time around. I would try usmlerx but everyone recommends uworld the most. Would it be wise to do uworld all over again or try different questions? Thank you for your help.

you did not learn enough from uworld last time deffinitely.
i does not matter if you score 100% in uworld bcos you did it previously, what you should focus on is learning from it and yeah, its good you do usmlerx too.its pretti good but not kaplanqbank.

so do both of them

UW, UW, and more UW...

Even if you're doing it the second time, you will still learn a lot. I was surprised when I realized this during my second run of UW. Also, you will find out which topics you still haven't mastered yet.

Thank you guys for the replies. I have decided to do Usmle Rx and Uworld. Any opinions on which one i should do first. I was thinking of doing Uworld first after I am done with reading all the material and then Usmlerx during DIT final review. Is that a good plan or I shoud I do it otherwise?

I was in similar situation, retook Step 1 in 3, 5 month. To UW I added Usmlerx, Score 95 and a little Kaplan. My advice: dont take a test unless you review 5000 ??? or more,
Good luck!

2 months is not enough for 2 qbanks. (I'm assuming this based on your first post above.) If your schedule only allows you to study for 2 months, stick to UW.

DIT is also time-consuming. It's hard to finish it in 2 weeks. I did it for 2 weeks and it was torture. I can barely do UW qbank (2nd pass) with it. 1 month of DIT alongside UW is more realistic.

When did you take your first attempt of step 1?

Yes I will start off with Uworld so that I can finish it up first and will look at rx if i have time left. Did DIT help you and would you recommend it? Or do you recommend doing another Qbank instead of it? I took Step 1 in july.

From what I have seen here this Jan-June 2012, people with nbme scores less than 230 have greatly improved with DIT. During this time, forum members were doing a pre-DIT and post-DIT nbmes to assess if DIT helped or not. However, if your nbme score is at 240 when you're starting DIT, the benefits will be minimal.

I suggest you do UW with DIT for a month. That will be two lectures of DIT + one - two blocks of UW per day. After you finish both, focus on nbmes and work on your weak areas. There are a lot of nbmes (forms 1-7, 11-13) for step 1 to keep you occupied for the remaining month.

If, for example, you are persistently weak on a subject, review that subject in your UW notes and FA. If you're still not performing well on that area, that's when you do a 2nd qbank, but ONLY on that subject. Doing a whole qbank (i.e. UsmleRx or Kaplan) AFTER uworld won't be very helpful and you might end up wasting your time.

I haven't tried usmleRx, but I found that Kaplan qbank compliments UW well in step 1. Kaplan qbank has questions similar to the nbmes in the subjects where UW is "weak". Examples of these subjects are cell and molecular biology and genetics. If you're doing Kaplan qbank after UW, switch to HY mode to do away with the absurdly detailed-oriented questions of Kaplan.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
