Question Understanding death in children

Hey there

I came across one of the questions asking about parents telling their 6-year-old child about the death of his brother/relative. The question was "what is the child's current understanding about death?" or sth like that
(it's a question from the free 150)

So can someone tell me how this understanding evolves throughout childhood? and when does a child start to know that death is final?

thanks

Default from 8 yrs

0-5yrs: they have no conception of death
5-8 yrs :believe death is reversible
after 8 yrs:they understand death as being permanent

culled from kaplan's behavioral sci. video

thank you!

I answered the above question based on the info. you wrote, but it was wrong! The correct answer for the question is that this child knows death is final

and this is coming from the official USMLE website! so who to follow! ?

Age 0 - 2 years:

Sees death as separation or abandonment
Has no cognitive understanding of death
Feels despair from disruption of caretaking
Age 2 - 6 years:

Often believes that death is reversible, temporary
May perceive death as a punishment
Engages in magical thinking that wishes come true -- may feel guilt for negative feelings toward the person who died, and think that was the cause of death
Age 6 - 11 years:

Shows gradual understanding of irreversibility and finality of death
Demonstrates concrete reasoning with ability to comprehend cause and effect relationship
Age 11 years or older:

Understands that death is irreversible, universal, and inevitable
Has abstract and philosophical thinking
