Unhappy Failed Step 1; Should I give up!

Hi all,

I took my step 1 in Aug after a year of on/off studies and I failed!! (121/61)!!!!!!

I watched Kaplan Vid and did DIT alongside with Goljan. I also did NBMEs on which my avg score was 220 and I did the 2 Uworld self assessment also on which my avg was 220. I did well on the Uworld q banks. I wasn't expecting anything below 200!! Now I am devastated, shocked and lost!!! I don't know should I continue Med and take this exam over again or take up some other path! Please pour in your opinion!

Thanks in Advance!

You lose ONLY when you give up...Nothing in the whole world can beat you, if you don't accept the defeat.

Failure is the first step to success.

We make mistakes to learn from them, Not to make them a reason for not trying the right way.

In the end it does not matter whether you fail or Pass, what matters is the knowledge you gain during the process.

Keep on trying. Its not the end of the road.Believe in urself. and strike back, HARDER this time.

Good Luck.

Default attitude

I know exactly how you feel! was there, done that!my failing score was 172, the night before the test my anxiety was above the roof and felt sooooo drowsy on the exam day, i hardly could keep my eyes open, not talking about answering the questions
Oh, well, what you do? I retook it 3,5 month later with 201 score, not great either, but it gave me confidence Im not damn, things like this happens and NOBODY has insurance for failure, but still proud of myself, being old IMG(1999, were considered as dinosaurs... ), still trying to compete with bunch of people....

So, Id suggest to work on your positive attitude first....

i disagree with you.there's no way you will score 220 in nbme and 121 in the exam.even if you decide to sleep in the exam.
study better this time and make sure you do nbmes b4 wtithing next time.tell yourself the truth, you should know when you are prepared

Yeah I doubt u really scored 220 in nbmes....with that said, a 121 means you have serious gaps in your knowledge...u need to get back to the basics....do Kaplan fully again then take an nbme ....them get first aid and read it million of times...a failure doesn't mean it's the end of the game, just means u have to do much better when u take it next time...good luck

Default don't loose hope never back down get back in this game with more power & aggression.....

Hey man i can say congrats to u... shocked off-course.. take the positive side of this senerio.. what if u have passed the step with score of 186.... just think about it... its good now u have 2nd chance for step 1.. & most of people say to u that u will have less chance for residency but i can say to u forget all the things just concentrate on step 1... i want to ask u one more thing that u have said that u have given NBME & U world can u tell me was it online or offline... as NBME is more then 95% is a good predictor.... one of my dearest friend had same situation as u r dealing with.. he has failed in step1 & he try again & got 212 in 1 & 215 in 2.. & now he is doing his residency in tulaine university... so just don't loose hope never back down get back in this game with more power & aggression..... wish u good luck GOD BLESS U

This seems very strange... The difference is too much. I would pay for a recheck or something. It sounds wrong!
