Pediatrics Newborn with urine draining from umbilicus

A 1 week new born is brought to the hospital with urine draining from umbilicus. The fluid is passing through which of the following remnants of the patent embryonic structures:

A) Lateral umbilical fold;
B) Medial umbilical fold;
C) Medial umbilical ligament;
D) Median umbilical fold;
E) Median umbilical ligament.

Correct answer is E) Median umbilical ligament, which is the obliterated urachus and passes from the upper end of the bladder to umbilicus.

A) Lateral umbilical fold transforms into the parietal peritoneum that covers the inferior epigastric artery and vein.

B) Medial umbilical fold transforms into parietal peritoneum that covers the distal portion of obliterated umbilical artery.

C) Medial umbilical ligament transforms into distal portion of obliterated umbilical artery.

D) Median umbilical fold gives rise to the peritoneum that covers the obliterated urachus.
