Angry I feel like breaking stuff..

I am studying for STEP 1 for the past 3 months now. Working on pharmacology.. I don't know why.. but i just feel like breaking stuff and hurting myself. And now i am just crying. Feel so aggravated, anxious. Feel stupid, because i can't seem to remember a lot of stuff. I am just angry with myself, because i can't get the amount of studying that i want in a day. My goal is to study 10-12 hours a day, and some how, i end up studying only max 3- 4 hours. I really need to buckle down, but i am distracted by everything. And after 8 pm, my mind just can't understand anything. It seems like the more i study, the more i am getting dumb. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Thumbs Up

dont wory! everyone goes through this phase. everytime I open the computer i end up spending at least half an hour on internet and then some rubbish stuff like that. but, I think I tried to manage myself through these simple steps..
1. Take off your internet cnnection. maybe, give it to your friends or other family member, don't even keep it at your place, else you'll end up surfing again.

2. Start your studies with Kvideos... I always start with Dr Raymon or Dr Fischer. They try to keep your mind focused and let you start liking your horrifying med books.

3. always log on to this forum and see other peoples status on their way to this test.
people who have already achieved their goal- help you to get thier guidance on this journey and the others will inspire you as you know you are not the only one to feel scared!

4. Keep in touch with things happening in the world as I think we need to be a part of this world. some people say they just stay in their room and don't talk to friends and like that. i cannot do that. it makes me scared and more depressed, coz the fact is we need each other for support. but don't get involved in anything, just keep in touch!

5. Lastly, the MOST IMPORTANT- EVERYDAY think where you are right now, and where you want to go? You have a lot to do and very less time.. so, Arise, Awake, Stop not till the goal is reached!

I know I might have sounded like a philosopher here, although I myself have posted some posts here saying that I feel scared. But you know, thats how it works, we all should share and try to help each other.

I hope to find some friends online with whom I can share my feelings about this test. Just be true to each other! and we all can make it!
Good luck!
Hope, i could help you with something ! dont worry, you will be a great doctor!

Default Don't quit

I am in ur situation as well, I been studying for 4 months now and a recent graduate from Basic sciences and I have forgotten most of the stuff that I studied in the beginning. But the 2nd time around it is not that difficult. Yes, you get frustrated because you constantly try and don't get good results in Qbanks may be. But think of that as adding to your knowledge and fine tuning.
This is going to take time and dedication.
So snap out of your anger and keep up with the positive attitude.
you will keep making connections and it will get simpler.

Like tai35, said i am going to try to channel all the anger into motivational boost, to keep going. I think, me feeling anxious and nervous is sign that i really care and want to do this. Also for the most part, just sharing my feeling here, made me a lot better. Now studying time.. thanks for sharing.

review review review, say it out loud, get someone to test you on it, revise it again and again and do questions on the same material

dont give up, take one day off if you can to relax and regroup

work with what you have and gradually increase it

hey dude..
for such subjects like pharma, biochem which are very volatile you can look into flashcards..it will make going over stuff again and again easy, and fun
figure out what will reduce your anxiety ,if you study and constantly keep pressurizing yourself..not much will stick.

make easier and realistic targets for 1 week at a time, add questions in your schedule..1 block/day is a good start.(compliance at any cost)

you would not believe how many times it happened to me...questions i solved a few days back and while studying FA,i come across the concept...the whole clinical scenario comes rushing in your head...and that my friend you will never forget..plus it will give you a sense of progress.(what most of us crave for)
Relax a little, atleast you have realized there is problem!
