Poison Ingested rat poison

A 26 year old female with a history of Munchhausen syndrome presents to the emergency room with epistaxis, bleeding gums, bruises & petechia. She has an episode of bloody emesis & has guaiac positive stool. After much questioning, she admits to having ingested rat poison. Immediate treatment of this pt should include
  • A. Syrup of Ipecac
  • B. Platelet Infusion
  • C. Cryoprecipitate
  • D. Fresh Frozen Plasma
  • E. Protamine Sulfate

D. Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP)
If it is as I think...rat poison is WARFARIN. The clinical scenario is compatible with it too.
Warfarin inhibits factors 2,7,9 & 10 that are found in FFP.
I hope I get it !

Yup - FFP for Warfarin toxicity... Also Vitamin K for long term.

Yes u r rite. Rat poisons mostly contain long acting hydroxycoumarin derivatives & are treated as warfarin toxicity with FFP and activated vit. K.

Goljan in his lections emphasise theatment of rat poisoning by fresh plasma.
