Can someone tell me what is the effect of squatting on mitral valve prolapse and mitral regurgitation? Different references told me different stories...
As i understand that.
In MVP mitral value become floppy and loose. So in systole it buldges back into LA.
and regarding murmur-
According to RR
MVP murmur depend on preload and its relation to S1/S2.
As in Anxiety, standing, valsalva-
decrease in venous return lead to decreased preload. So murmur moves closer to S1 (which means intensity increase)
In Squatting, hand grip, Passive leg raising-
increased venous return, lead to increased preload. So murmur moves closer to S2 (which means intensity decreases)
In short-
anything which increased venous return increases the intensity of all heart murmur except- MVP and HCM.
Anything which decreases venous return decreases the intensity of all heart murmur except MVP and HCM.
Hope you got my point.
