Default Urgent! I need advice please! To take or not to take step 1 exam?

Hello,

I need some advice please.
I feel so sad.
I am an IMG, I have been studying for step 1 since 1 year ago. I graduated from my medical school on 2008, I got married and have been traveling with my husband because of his job. Since last year we are more stable, living in USA. So I started to prepare for usmle, I read kaplan, watched all videos, studied FA 1 time, goljan 1 time, and recently started making questions on UW and Kaplan.
I got pregnant on february, and I continued studying hard, now I am 35 weeks pregnant and my energy is so low, but I continued studying.

The problem is that i am geting 30/40% on UW exams, unused, timed, mixed. And the same in KQ.
I made form 11 of NBME and got a 3 digit usmle step 1 score of 158!!
I made form 7 and got the same.
My exam is on november 15, and I CAN NOT EXTEND MY PERIOD BECAUSE I ALREADY DID THAT BEFORE.

My question is.... what should I do? should I study hard this 2 weeks left and go for the exam or should I cancel and lose the money? I do not what to do, my mind is confused with this exam and trying to focus also on the little one growing inside me. (my first one), I wanted to make the exam befire my baby delivery because after that I do not know when I will do that again. (I am 31 YO)

Please help me. I am so confused. I feel sad beacuse I have invested a lot of time and money on this, my dream is to becaome a doctor here in USA.

Any advice is welcome.

First of all congrats on having your first baby.

And then, 158 on NBME is a very unsafe score.I may not be in a very good position to answer your query but as I have seen so far that NBME score are very predictable of your real score. So If I were you, I would have not gone to the exam in 2 weeks.I know its difficult and a lot is at stake but its the reality.

In the end you are the one who has to make the dicision.

The child is more important than anything at this stage.Don't get disappointed...keep working hard, and you will achieve the goal.

By the way I am also getting aroung 40% on UW.Haven't taken any NBME yet though.

Good Luck.

I think you should cancel the exam and take it later,

I know a friend who did cs although he was having social problems and he could not study well he took the cs and he failed and later he regretted not postponing the exam

I know another friend who took step 1 and failed because he did not study well and he felt regret because he did not postpone the exam so

I heard that if you fail in an exam that will affect your matching and alot of hospitals will refuse to interview you

so I think you should postpone the exam and redo it after 3 or 6 months

regarding the money it is better to lose the money know than to have the exam and do bad in it and repay again for a remake and so you will lose both the exam and the money

that's my opinion and I hope you choose the best for you
