Clock When to subscribe for a question bank

Dears,
I am preparing for step 1 and I am wondering about when should I subscribe for a question bank (kaplan's for example)... should I subscribe for a long plan (9 months for instance) once I start reading so I can practice each subject directly after finishing it or I should leave Qbank subscription till I finish all subjects???
Thanks a loooot for your concern

I have started to study recently and this is how my plan is based on the inputs from past exam takers.

Study Kaplan once while doing some web based question banks like www.webpathguy.com. It will be great if you feel like and want to do Kaplan Qbook, however i know many people who didn't finish it completely yet went on to score very well.

Study Kaplan second time. This is when you subscribe UW. Start doing questions and realize where you are going wrong. Use this information and revise Kaplan and FA and see your knowledge improve.

You could also read Step 1 experiences in this forum and choose something for yourself as well.

Start reading questions early but not necessarily the expensive qbanks. You can get one or two question books to use while reading and once you finish your first reading of all the books then subscribe to the qbank to minimize the cost.

I have questions about online q-bank too. I finished "reading stage"... I want to subscribe to Kaplan q-bank after q-book and WebPath. How you use the online q-banks (Kaplan or UW) exactly? How many questions you pass per day? Do you use always timed mode? Do somebody use teaching mode (then how I will be sure about my score predict)?... Or somebody after timed session study very careful only incorrect answers. But in most times I not sure about why I choose this answer - "just because", or sometimes I reject couple answers if I not see any association with questions and then choose stupidly between 2 or 3 answers...
I'd be glad to receive any advices.

I think everyone has their own way of doing Qbanks. I'm doing 1 to 2 blocks per day and going through my 2nd reading of Kaplan along with it. I always do questions in the timed mode and if I'm not sure about the answer I still answer it but mark the question so that when I go over it with the answers I know what went wrong. This is just my method though and it works with the timeline and schedule I have set up. See how much time you have left before your exam and make a schedule.

I haven't started any question banks yet but when i do, i will start with the untimed ones in the beginning and once i start feeling confident i will go into the timed version.

How many questions you pass per day? - It depends on how much time you have to spend on the solving and then reviewing each option properly - don't miss out on reviewing part.

No do not do this unless you have a year to study for step one
Get the Q bank earlier the step one experiences are only Valid for the last 6 months, anyone who took it in 2010 has something to say, honestly it was s different test just a year ago.

Not finishing the q bank has nothing to do with anything,
Its the % correct, so many post I did 44% of bank or 65% of bank and this means 0, zip and does not help

Getting 70% of the block right is the key to success.

Passing the USMLE has nothing to do with time

If you can take an NBME 2 times and get a 550 or better each time then you are already going to pass

If you cannot answer 3 blocks of Kaplan Questions with a 65% or better correct then you are not going to pass

the two correlate well

UW is the same thing

I did
Kaplan Q bank
USMLE World Q bank
and
USMLERX bank

I liked USMLERX bank the best but I passed after using it.

it worked for me

the Plan you should have

Step one 6 months or prep

Qbank 46 or 44 Questions everyday, 2 blocks are good as well
FA for 2 hours a day
Kaplan review material the rest

this is it and you will do very well if you truly follow the advice, so many want to tell you how they did it, and you too should only need......the problem is the true way to know what you need is to test yourself, like on the NBME exams ( not offline pay for the online ones)Only you know what you know. This is not an easy test and reading a concept and even reciting things is not enough, you need to be trained how to think and answer these twisted questions. Step one is more like an IQ test then medical.

I also used passing basic science as well but I limited myself in sources

If you want solve the wiki step one test bank first, its free and worth it.

Web path is not step one worthy questions

Here is some evidence for the % correct

look at the chart

Good luck
