how long has it been since you graduated from medical school? specifically, how long since you learned the basic science?

what subjects are you weak in the most? figure out your weak areas.

people still match after their 3rd attempt, as long as you're american/canadian, you'll eventually match. not sure how it works for those with no papers...but i personally know 2 people that matched after their 2/3rd attempt. nothing fancy but hey, there's hope!

You are right sarah,
As long as we owe the government that big FAT student loan, they will figure out a way for us to find a job! They need their money back
You may end up in Indian reservations, but who cares, they forgive 20K on your student loans for every year of service and they have amazing residency programs and if that didn't work join the army

Don't lose hope...sorry to hear about your result...thats why when i see people with scores above 200 and they still cry i laugh at them....this test is one of the hardest in the world, to even pass it is in itself a very hard accomplishment

please read my exam experience as i struggled mightily with this exam but i came out on top of it...good luck to u

I don't see a reason why being a Canadian citizen has a" massive" advantage (in US residency matching)over other IMGs unless you are from LCME Accrediated medical school in Canada infact if you are Canadian who is IMG he/she may not be even getting any advantage in Canadian medical system which is unlike US where green card and being American citizen is a bonus for IMGs.

Please fill me up in case i am missing any thing.Best luck

(p.s i am dead sure OSAP will be least concerned whether you become a doctor or not they will be only wanting their money back irrespective of its source)

Canadian students are known to have advantage when it comes to matching into US residencies as we do not require a lot of paperwork like other foreigners. 8% (last I checked) of residencies in Canada are reserved for IMG's and of those IMG's, Canadian residents are given priority over IMG's from other countries. In fact, some residencies will prefer to take residents of their own provinces (I know this for a fact, two of my Carib-grad friends happen to be from MB, applied all over canada but only matched in MB and had zero connections here btw)

I'm not from Ontario so I don't know much about OSAP but OSAP doesn't even cover 1/4 of med school expenses lol and if it does, it only covers expenses for those that study at the big 4 caribbean schools or UK/Ireland/Australia. Even then, its only 10,000/year. You're right, they don't care. We don't even have student loans offered for those studying abroad in my province. You just have to take out a private loan. So I disagree with the OP about institutions having to find us residencies simply because they want their money back. I do however think that everyone will match, it just takes time

In states if you don't get matched you can do research, and they pay pretty good, and you can pay your student loans. I also know a lot of my friends and family who matched even though they didn't pass the step the first time. But we are all citizen of USA.

I also know if you are a IMG and go and work in reservations, they will give you citizenship if you serve for 4 years. My brother was going to do that, but he worked for the government hospital and got his citizenship that way. He was a AMG though.

I don't know about Canada.

@SarahM

Anyone outside LCME Accrediated medical school in Canada is considered an IMG irrespective of its citizen or PR status and 8% refers to those Canadian IMGs as pure IMGs(non Canadians) have simply no chance in entering Canadian health care system due to their limited number of residency spots,dont know much about MB but in ON things are not that optimistic owing to sheer volume of applicants .
But I agree that there might be slight advantage for Canadians in US system regarding their J1 visa .

" I do however think that everyone will match, it just takes time "

this line can act as positive reinforcement for anyone prep for boards

@sherina 90 i totally agree with you
