Search Dapsone for Rx of MetHb

Hi Everyone,

I just heard that Dapsone, has been mentioned as a treatment modality of Methemoglobinemia in kaplan pathology/pharmacology videos as a newer agent. Fromy my understanding Dapsone is an oxidative agent that accelerates the Methemoglobin production especially in G6PD deficient individuals. It is also one of the main drug related causes of methemoglobinemia. If anyone has any information about this please share it. Thank you.

I've haven't heard Dapsone as a treatment of Methemoglobinemia either.............the metabolite of dapsone is an oxidizing agent worsening HbM...............instead drugs like cimetidine can be given in such cases...........the treatment of HbM is methylene blue...........
