Default Read or memorize

I am just curious: Most of you write in their exam experience/learning strategies that they read Kaplan lecture notes and that it takes them 2 months for the first read.

If we are talking about "reading", do you mean actually reading (like a book/newspaper) or memorization.
I am still in med school, before every exam I gather all the important data and make my own little summary and try to memorize it. This would be way too much for step 1.

2. E.g. Can you recall every sideeffect of a medication or the way it works. Do you exclude answer choices while doing questions or do you choose the answer by recognising a certain drug related side effect.

I hope you get my point.

I am just curious about your learning strategies.

Your questions are pretty unclear. I would recommend a mix of both text and other methods of learning. Text + quizzing or flashcards, along with repetition (have you heard of Anki?).

Lastly, I would recommend Picmonic. If you are having trouble memorizing small details like side effects and drug mechanism, this program is AMAZING. I still remember things from my Step 1 and can close my eyes and let a picture do all the talking for me.
