Unhappy How to pick the right date?

I am a carribean grad. I sat down in september to focus on step 1. Initially I was hoping to take my exam on dec 21. I got my scheduling permit today and I saw that my eligibility to take exam is till jan 31- 2013. I am lost. One extra month means I can do another Q bank like kaplan ( which I wanted to do but decided to let go because of my time line and I decided to stick to UW).

I am matching only in 2015 and that means taking exam in december or jan doesnt really matter except my father is making a huge deal since now I am flip flopping dates and he thinks I am procrastinating. Someone shed some insights into this. I am a good student and I am almost done with my kaplan vids, UW and FA so far. I just want to make sure I pick a date that will max my score rather than rushing to finish it in dec 2012. Also, can I take an nbme and see where I stand?
