MusculoSkeletal Marathon versus 100-Yard Muscle Physiology!

Two 23 yo identical twin women are members of the track team at their community college. One twin runs the marathon, while the other twin runs the 100-yard dash. A comparison of the leg muscles of these two young women would most likely show which of the following?

A. Little difference because they are identical twins.
B. The motor neurons activating the muscles of the twin that ran the marathon have a greater diameter.
C. The muscles of the twin that ran the marathon are deeper red in color.
D. The muscles of the twin that ran the marathon have a greater concentration of glycogen.
E. The muscles of the twin that ran the marathon have a greater number of fast-twitch fibers.

Phew! And I thought I was the only one getting this wrong.

The answer is C.

@rupesh, @venky2600 and @subbi - can you please put forward your explanation. I always tend to mess up the Type 1 Type 2 muscle questions.

...fast twitch fibers(as name implies)--acts only for short time(splinter runner),coz they dont have much myoglobin(hence white fibers)..

slow twitch fibers------can act for long time(e.g postural muscles),muscle endurance training(marathon runner)...have more myoglobin(red fibers) and aerobic too.........here marathon is long distance running which need endurance (as @blade said above)....aerobic metabolism provides oxygen for muscle endurance for long time(hence can run for long time)

hope it understands...thanks
