Listening How to avoid Idiotic Mistakes!

Hello friend,
Whenever i had difficulty during my preparation i always came for help from my fellow friends opinion.
So here is my problem-
I have exam in 3 weeks- taking my first online NBME by tmr or day after tmr but my problem is when i am practicing UWSA and offline NBMEs. I do some really silly mistakes which i regret after i see answer. As i know everything about that question but sometimes over think or sometimes under think and stuck between 2 options and end up marking the wrong option.
I am trying to read most basic concepts related to topics which i am week at and trying to do more and more questions but is there anyway i can make those idiotic mistakes little less bcoz its really affecting my scores.
Any opinion would be more then appreciated.
Thanks

hi there...i can completely understand the way you feel...the way to avoid these silly mistakes would be to be very focused on the question while reading & going with your instincts while coming across the last 2 options....dont overthink on an answer....In the exam even if you get one answer Right dont get too relaxed or if you get one wrong dont lose your temper....its a long and tiring you just need to keep COOL.....try this in your next practice test...All the best

@Koolkiller88 .... Dude I am worse than u ... My problem is worse...What I do is , When I am stuck in two options , I leave them both and select a 3rd one...lolz

I took NBME 7 the other day , and can u believe it I scored 160. I got 102 questions right and 98 wrong...Out of those 98 40 were the ones which I changed my answers from correct to incorrect.I was so shattered...I almost cried...Since then I have promised myself that I will never change my answer , come what may.

And guess what , It has helped me.
Am revising everything again, and thinking of taking form 11 in a week or so.Cos the exam is on dec 20.Looks like I will have to extend my eligibility period and postpone the exam...Better to postpone than to fail.

Good Luck.

Hey dude/madam (don't know your gender) i can understand your situation and as sameer mentioned concentrate on question, don't think examiner is trying to fool you. They are just trying to trick us. So thats what i am trying to do believe me i am improving, not as fast as jet fighters but still its improvement.
So next time when you do questions concentrate on question not on timer. As its not difficult to cop up with timer once you get confidence attempting question.

and one more thing
"Don't compare yourself with anyone else like- my friend got 260 i should get 270 or something like that. Just try you best to get a score which can get you residency."
So wish you best of luck and all others who are having tough time dealing with step 1 (including me )

I do the same. What helped me a bit with the silly mistakes was spending slightly more time on a question that I thought was damn easy. Like even it's an easy concept being tested, don't rush. I always rush and then get shocked at the silliest mistake I've ever made. It's more pissing off to get an easy question wrong. Just take another few seconds on the question if possible. At the end of the day, we can always score on the simpler questions!

Default Follow the First Hinch

In my personal opinion, the first hinch is most times right. Not always but I have learned that the first thought that comes into your mind, usually leads to the right answer.I myself have changed many questions from correct to incorrect by just overanalysing unnecessarily.Trying to improve that
