Info Question regarding Step 1 Qmax (Qbank)

Hi,
Hope everyone is doing good.

I am done with Kaplan Qbank ( 65%) and Uworld (95%)...But my scores are low...Its in the range of 45%.

I have been reading UWorld again and again.and Now it looks like I know the answers...so it doesn't matter if I keep on doing it again ... I took NBME 7 which I didn't do well on.I made a lot of mistakes which were totally Idiotic. My score was 160 by the way.

My exam is scheduled for dec 20...Which looks like I have to postpone it.But I was wondering Should I do The Rx Qmax for step 1...Is it any good? and is it high yield or not ?

Please help , I shall be thankful to you.

Good luck to all.

Dude its a co-incidence that we both posted same question just in bit different sense.
My evaluation of all Qbanks (I was thinking to post this after exam but as you asked I am posting now)
I have been reading lot of review from people regarding Qbanks and NBMEs. So say Qbanks are related to exam whereas others say NBMEs.
While i am going though Qbanks and NBMEs i observed that both have different way of asking questions and even different way of giving options.
Eg- while doing NBMEs i observed that real basic stuff like- basic cell biology, basic pathophysiologies are heavily tested where as while doing Qbanks i observed that questions were more integrated but given in very indirect way like- after reading question you know diagnosis but to get answer you have to integrate 1 or 2 concepts together to get into conclusion.

Now why i am mentioning this because we all are preparing long enough. So most of questions when we do we are quite familiar but then problem is at last we left with 2 possible answer and most of time we end up marking wrong answer.
and that 2 possible answer also varies in Qbanks and NBMEs
In Qbank: We can't integrate things as question needs

In NBME: we know the bigger picture but have rough memory of basic concept. eg: Most of us know in pemphigus vulgaris we have antibodies against desmosomes but we have very rough memory about desmosomes exact functions.(I guess most of u know about this, i am just trying to explain my words)

Now how to deal with our weak areas:
1. Try to evaluate your weak topics (GI or Cardio) and then try to evaluate which particular subject (Physio, Pharma, etc).

2. Now If you are struggling with subjects like physio or other concept based subjects try to tried from more detailed source (I mean not book but kaplan or BRS not from FA- as its not much explanatory)

Whereas if you are struggling with subjects like micro and pharma then do stick to FA (as most say these 2 subjects are only asked from FA) but remember cover all from FA and do questions related to that to reinforce the information.

And if you are struggling with both kinda subjects then make a schedule and try to give quality time to both.

3. "If you are left with 2 options then may be you are not reading question carefully"- quote by casandra

4. If you haven't did DIT include it in your schedule. That guy just read FA but he give you some information about a mentioned topic. So that it stay in mind longer.
he tell you about high yield topics to particularly emphasize. So, we can pay special attention to them. Like- knowing circle of wills or brachial plexus.

5. If you are reading UW explanation it will help you to remember concept behind the question but doing new questions will give you more good idea about question asking pattern.

These are few points which i thought of while doing my prep. As i am also not scoring some kick a** scores in Qbanks and NBMEs. I am not exactly someone who can suggest or recommend you something. As a fellow i just gave my opinion and welcome others to post there.

Default RX

Rx will help you see details of FA which you probably skip or don't read it carefully.

Another thing about Uworld is you HAVE to take nots from explanations and you Have to re read them.

Good luck.
