Question Eosinophils

Eosinophils are acidophilic white blood cell, are important in allergy and fighting invasive parasite infestations.

Eosinophils contains granules and according to Goljan contains


It modulate type 1 hypersensitivity reactions.

How come their levels are raised in allergic reaction? To alleviate mediators of allergy ?

goljan said it modulates mast cell degranulation in type 1 HSR but it actually has double effects;

in asthma for instance
1.it neutralizes histamins from mast cells(early phase)
2.it triggers inflammation by cell damaging effects of the major basic proteins,leading to more bronchocostriction.
this 2nd effect is cause of characteristic charcot leiden crystals in sputum
with God,nothing is impossible...PREMATCHED!!!
