Unhappy Postponing - and if yes how long?

Hi you all,

throughout my step 1 preps I have been following this awesome community so now that I am at the brink of my exam I panic a little and maybe you can help me out a bit

so, I started a few months ago first with reading brs physio, goljan patho and biochem, pathophys, uworld statistics and first aid.
Since a month or so I started with uworld questions, mostly scoring a few points above average - some more, some less. I still have like 600ish questions to go.

My exam is scheduled dezember 19th and I just did the uworld self assessment and failed miserably (at least it feels like it...) with 540 (228 predicted).
I am planning to go into MedPed and this is incredibly competitive for an IMG so a score around 230 would kill this plan. Above 250 might get me there.

Today is the 10th so I have 8 days to go... damn.

Could anyone of you wonderful minds out there advice me what to do now?
I know... dont panic - I try. But still this wont help me with getting a higher score

I guess the key to success is studying and going through everything again but my question to you (and someone has to have similar experiences) is wether I should postpone it to december 28th (screwing my christmas a little but who cares) or go for the big one, reschedule my period to Jan - March and go for it the end of January? (I have my german national exam in april but as step 1 is fairly clinical I guess it wont hurt to have it all deeper in the system)

So, what do you think? go for a 9 day extension and cram for 20 days or reschedule big time and go through it more intensively, finish UWORLD and do the NBMEs? Or screw it and go for it at the 19th? (ahhhhh....)

thank you so much for your suggestions and help!

I had the same dilemma.
My exam is coming up as well.
And both you guys have great NBME scores. People would die for those.

I'm sure thousands of students have the same scare and want to reschedule too. Its human nature to be scared for something with so much meaning.

Its been told previously that 1 or 2 two weeks may increase your score but not by much.

Better to have that test date focused in your mind.
Study hard knowing the goal you want is in your grasp.
And never give up. And by the end of the day. When you get your score. And you know you tried your absolute best for the circumstances you were given, you'll be proud to what you have achieved.

I really appreciate your comments here and I am totally aware that those are actually rather decent results! Sometimes with the results posted here one gets the feeling that 250 is the average but I am very very aware that this is not the case and a lot of announced results might be exaggerated.

However, coming from germany with an actually very good medical education system and payment there is no reason for me to go to the states other than a very small selection of very specific residencies in top notch universities.
I hope that no one takes this as any kind of insult though - its just my dream of going into global health via MedPed

Well - after posting this I did some thinking and will try a NMBE tomorrow and decided based on that; I will keep you updated and post on a regular basis, maybe in a new thread about how it goes.

Much power to all of you fighting out there along with me!
