It would depend on what's causing the failure. Mitral Stenosis would cause Left atrial hypertrophy leading to Pul. HTN and right ventricular hypertrophy which will eventually cause right heart failure.

yea i agree but what if its exclusively right heart failure (with only ^JVD and peripheral edema lungs clear to auscultation). your scenario will lead to LHF before RHF.

Like already stated, I think it depends on the cause. Left sided failure can cause Right Sided failure, and vice versa.

If you have pulmonary hypertension ---> will cause RVH ---> Eventually Right Ventricular Failure

Left atrium would be enlarged in mitral stenosis.

Right Ventricle could be enlarged with hypertension (increase afterload).

As you can see, there are too many combinations of possiblities, because add to that, that Left side failure can cause right side failure, and right said failure can cause left side failure (back flow). i might be wrong, but isn't the most common cause of left sided failure, right sided failure?

so all the things that cause left side failure, can also cause right side failure, down the line.

interested to know where you got this question from, and in what context it was written in.
