In historical study, 4753 nullliparous women with confirmed pregnancies were randomized to either folic acid or trace element supplemenation. In both folic and trace element group, 88% of women had pregnancies ending in live birth, late fetal death, still birth or termination of pregnnacy after prenatal digaosis of a defect . The following pregnancies outcome were found.
Drug folic acid trace elemetn
Neural tube defect 0% 0.29%
All congenital anomalies 1.3% 2.3%
Based on this data, using trace element as control group, which of following best represent how many nulliparous women with confirmed pregnancies would have to be treated with folic acid to prevent one congenital anomaly?
A 0
B 0.29
C 1.3
D 2.3
E 80
F100
G 120
H 344

ARR =event control - event treatment. AAR=.29/100
and then NNT= 1/ARR or 1/.0029 = 344

ARR=2.3-1.3
=1%, 1% is equal to .01
so no needed to treat equal to 1/.01=100
so ans is F
