Question Controversial Topics in the USMLE Exam!

Guys, if there are contrasting views on a topic in Kaplan Lecture notes and Uworld, which one is safer to follow?
Request guys with experience to give their opinion.

Would be glad if Sabio and Step Taker could help out

There is this topic of Aspirin toxicity.
KLN talks about 2 issues
1)High Therapeutic doses-causes Resp alkalosis followed by compensation of the respiratory alkalosis
2)Toxic doses-Causes Resp acidosis(due to inhibition of respiratory centre) and then Metabolic acidosis

Uworld just talks about toxic doses and says it causes Resp alkalosis(due to stimulation of the respiratory centre) and Metabolic acidosis.

So what is safer to follow?

Default My opinion

Neither Kaplan Lecture Notes nor USMLE World nor Wikipedia are authentic medical literature, you should go back to trusted medical textbooks and the pubmed for research articles when you want to find the correct answer.

As Obinocle says, sometimes the information looks different depending on how the question is phrased but the basic facts remain the same.

Furthermore, if the topic is really controversial like even medical textbooks and references differ about it or when the issue is opinionized or when the topic is very recent development such as new drug
then in all those examples, it's highly unlikely that you will have a question about in the real exam because the NBME avoid such topics, they want to put up questions that are non-debatable and has one and only one answer.

This issue has been discussed before several times; see these two examples;
Aspirin Overdose; Respiratory Alkalosis or Metabolic Acidosis
Aspirin; Respiratory Acidosis or Respiratory Alkalosis?
