First Aid First Aid Directly good idea?

I am currently working and I think studying all the Kaplan books will be too much if I want to give the exam in time frame that I have planned.

I am thinking I should go straight to the First Aid book and look up what I don't understand there in the Kaplan books, then spend the rest of of my preparation time doing USMLE-world and Kaplan Q bank and NBMEs.

Does anyone have experience with this, or knows others who did this, and if so, what was the outcome and is this advisable?

All advice appreciated.

The key sentence that you mentioned "what I don't understand". This means you will be able to tell whether it's a good idea for you or not.

Students who are fresh out of their basic sciences courses in med school might not need Kaplan to prepare, while those who forgot those courses might need Kaplan to refresh up.

FA alone is not easy if you are more than a couple of years away from your basic sciences course.

I didn't mean I'll use FA alone, I know that's questionable. I will use other texts with it as a reference for info/concepts that I do not understand completely. I'm not looking to memorize FA either; I am aware that understanding concepts is a fundamental part of Step 1, and rightly so.

If the purpose of Kaplan etc. is to brush up the basic science to make FA make sense, then it does make sense that one could go the other way round and consult the other texts when things in FA don't immediately make sense, no? Theoretically, that sounds good to me, and I just what people who have taken the Step 1 and know FA think about the idea, or better yet, if someone followed a similar method.
