Default Thalassemia and TIBC

I was listening to Goljan audio, and he said that Thalassemia has a high TIBC and ferritin. I don't quite get the reasoning hide them both being high. can someone help me out? Thanks

I picked up on this mistake as well. The transcript says high for both of them, the audio doesn't. Are you following the transcript with the audio?; I went back to the audio 3 times and looked at the transcript, apparently there's a typo.
When he's questioning the students at the end of the lecture regarding the alpha and beta thalassemia he says:
Iron: normal
TIBC: normal
% Sat: normal
Ferritin: normal
..and he asks what are you going to do about it: Nothing
..Even his RR textbook says normal. Check pg.202
