Hi friends!

I just took an NBME #7 and got a raw score of 260 which is converted to 165. (T_T) It's really a shock because I thought I was doing well when I did the exam. Now I feel really discouraged. I feel like I don't know anything. I already did uworld, did DIT, and read First Aid. My exam is this coming March. Any suggestions on how to improve my score? I'm going to push my exam back. Ugh!!! I wish I can be smart like a lot of you guys on this forum. Thank you guys for all your help!!!

IMHO, you may not have grasped the basic concepts well and just doing questions without reading to understand those concepts is a big mistake. I say this because I'd prepared for step 1 for nearly a year and after doing all of KLN once, Pathoma once and FA 1.5x, I took an NBME and got a 188...everyone said do UWorld and take another...after 1 week of intense UWorld revision, my scores did not go up. I finally cancelled my exam as I had pushed my eligibility already forward.

What I'm saying is, be sure you really have understood the basic concepts. if you're sure you got your concepts, go ahead with the questions...but if not, I'd suggest you read KLN once again, really understand the concepts & then go back to your questions. This would probably mean you move your exam forward. Time is so against all of us, but as Dr. Laura told me, if you don't do well in step 1 or fail because you're afraid you'd not make your timeline, it makes no difference...your timeline would still be messed up.

I encourage you to take your time with this test. I hope to take mine in May. I wish you all the best.

Well, my point is, after 3 weeks of revising UWorld and scores not going up week after week, it's clear that basic concepts were not in place. And yes, your score can go up in a week if you had your basic concepts and all you were doing was revise your weak areas or dot ur i and cross your t...!

Bottom line, poor basics=poor revision, UWorld or not!! That's the point I'm putting forth.
