Angry I got low Step 1 Score

I got 193. I am an IMG student- recent graduate. I did the best I could and I did whatever that was suggested. Uworld, DIT, firstaid, nbmes- my score was around 200 and I went ahead with exam anyways - mainly I was exhausted from prepping and family pressure to get it over with. I wanted to do OBGYN. Can anyone tell me if I should continue or give up ?

Is there any hope for a residency for me and if so What should I do ?

its takes a while sometimes to get a reply.

but don't lose hope. i've seen a lot of threads like this. usually the best advise people get is to keep fighting and try to do better in step 2 and get really good LOR's.

In the medicine world. there are people who get high score and DONT Match and there are people who get LOW score and DO match. so WHY GIVE UP?

every case is different. just learn from your mistake and work harder next time.

Hope that helps.

Why give up now? There are who failed and studied again and passes on second time. You should be thankful to GOD who helped you along the way. You are done with STEP 1. STEP 1 is the hardest of all. And you passed. There are still STEP 2CS, CK, and STEP 3. There also interships to do. Work on those. Do couple of papers based on your interest field which is OB/Gyn. Make yourself a positive of point. You are done with one. Now pick up your STEP 2 books, grab your research topic and get moving.

Thank you. I spoke to couple of my residency fellows and they seem to be saying the same too. My parents are really mad now but once they cool down, I will let them know about my decision to move on. I cannot see myself do anything but this. I will focus better for my CK 2 and work from there. The biggest mistake I did was to ignore that little voice inside me saying move the date. I fell for the pressure.

Joset2, i know how you must be feeling but i want to give you my personal experience, Am IMG, want to do surgery but my first attempt at step one i didn't pass, then went did CK and passed with 198, CS was a pass too .Now am re-reading for Step one, pple will say many things to discourage you but ultimately what matters is following your dreams and God will see you through. Now am scheduled for march to take the exam but i feel very unready. I just did biochem u-world questions and got 48%. But am not going to give up.It has been a long road and i don't see my self not working as an M.D it is all i ever wanted and dreamed of..so please hang in there, work harder on CK

Thank you for the kind reply. You are absolutely right. A low score doesnt necessarily mean we will be a horrible doctor. I did very well on floor and had a very good rapport with my patients. Ultimately the reality of the situation is that, We may not get the best program or best field. I am willing to work as a family physician and if I do my CK well, I have a slim shot at OB GYN. It is what it is. We have to move on and work harder.
