Listening Initially failing the NBME then Passing them

For those of you that failed nbmes but later on started passing and improving your score, what helped you get there? I made some silly mistakes on my nbme and I have been going over uworld and first aid throughly. I am understanding and making connections but I haven't taken an nbme for a while. Is this the right way to proceed?

If I did , I am sure all of you will.

My first NBME was shocking, 153.(October).
The second after a month and a half (153) (Mid Dec).
The 3rd one after a month. (189) (Mid January).

Keep on repeating...Finally you will.

Exam in 15 days.
That was the last NBME I took.

UWorld self Assessment 1 : 214 (4 weeks ago)
Self assessment 2: 232 (2 weeks ago)

I am gonna take the exam anyway.Don't have option.Already extended eligibility period once.

And to be honest ,even If I had more time to take, I would go for it.I am tired of this thing.Studying like there is no tomorrow for the last 1 year.

Will let you guys know about the exam in a couple of weeks.

the reason i ask is if its worth it to go over nbme discussions on forums(ones that you took) or am i better off just studying my material instead of spending time reviewing nbme discussions

Yes I did go through every one of them. And its helps a lot.Cos I noticed that different NBMEs ask the same questions in different way.So definitely go through them , if you have time..and the good thing about it is that you never forget them again.

okay so i took two nbmes and i will go over them. I am saving nbme 7 for the end. should i review the other nbmes as well, even if i don't get to take them(i probably won't since I don't have time).

how did you review nbmes? you just searched up discussions? If so, any links for good nbme discussions? or did you use those answer keys that people circulate on here.

hey ballers,step4doc1 ... if youll have a link to check the answers for nbme please share it with me as well.
also will it really take 2-3 more months to see a rise in my marks like you did in yours or in retrospect is there a way to speed up the process.?

I am as shoked as you are.. Which makes me more anxious cuz i dint feel prepared, especially reading sine if the questions posted..
From form first part i was doing UW with extensive not taking (dist get to review yet).. Took lot of time..i also reviewed my iwn notes, FA, Last 2 weeks been doing moreDIT than UW.. Hope its the right choice

What do u think if the experiences that say exam is tougher than NBMEs or FA us not enough?

Trust me if you jumped on your nbme's, then regardless of whether or not you feel prepared, you know your stuff...You found something that's working so you should continue along with it..

as far as the step 1 goes, i've read experiences, been told by friends who averaged around 220+ on their nbmes that they felt like they failed, or the exam was easier..regardless they ended up getting around the same score as their highest nbme(not uwsa) and sometimes even 10 points higher.

Faith, im the last guy you want to ask for advice lol. But from what I've seen here so far, it seems like nbme 7 is the most predictive one(albeit an older one..came out in 2009) and nbme 15 is the newest one(came out in 2013)..I say do both dude..

im doing DIT too instead of the uworld.hopefully that pays off.

@faith - do you take a day off in between to review everything covered in dit or do you plan to do it in the last week or so?

i really hope to finish this exam off by the end of april.hopefully i can make jumps in scores like you guys did.

Im planning to review forgettable stuff today until 12 noon (which the time of my real exam) then i'll do form 7.. And either 3 blocks UW or a UW assessment just to simulate real exam.
Practically i am in last week now and im doing DIT while reading my FA and notes, pausing alot. But last 3 days ir so ima stop DIT..

What do u guys recommend to get rid of headache!! Had it with every NBME and continuos since booking my test!! =,|

Good luck to all of us

My plan is to do my last pass of FA the week before the exam, to keep it fresh in my mind. Almost all the questions I missed on my NBME's are not in FA anyway, so doing FA would not be a score-booster, but it does prevent you from missing the easy give-me questions.

I have no idea. I wish I knew. I do notice that Pathoma and UWorld covers a lot of things not in FA, but there are still some obscure questions that I'm not sure how to prepare for.

hi guys. my exam on 18th april. i had a bad score on uwsa 1 one month ago. than did uw again (half of) and read first aid again. uwsa2, after 3 weeks was 15 points higher than uwsa 1. i think the best way is reviewing first aid!!!!!
when you find a topic is not good enough in fa then go through uw-search. enter that topic and you will find all questions about that. you can add good notes from Qs to fa. that s what i tried to do.

best lucks everyone
