Question Wrong answer but not the worst answer?

Is it true if we pick a wrong choice on the NBME or USMLE, but it was the second most picked choice, we wont lose as many points as if we were to pick the least selected choice? Notice how we lost points on both but do we lose less points based on the particular wrong answer we choose?

I disagree Not true

Not True.

First of all, you don't lose points in USMLE. No (negative marking).

However, it's believed (notice believed, it's not for sure a fact) that USMLE questions have different weights. For example you get two points if you answer a difficult question and only one point for answering an easy question (the difficulty determination is based on how many people did actually got that answer correct or perhaps the difficulty level is predetermined by the question writer, nobody knows).

Also, remember that there are "experimental" questions in the real exam, these questions do not count whether you get them right or wrong.

I have to add that the NBME and ECFMG have never clarified how the score is calculated point by point, there's no transparency in this issue and therefore lots of speculations and rumors from students and teachers.
