Cool What is the plan to start? 260+ score needed!

Hey guys,

so now I am a first year medical student in Egypt (6 years program) and planning to take STEP 1 USMLE in the vacation between 3rd year and 4th year.

I am aiming for 260+ score as I want orthopedic surgery (I know it is a long shot but that's my goal).

I started researching already with faculty orthopedic doctors and saving money to go in externships in both Ortho and IM to get LORs as IM is plan B (I have to be planning to take them when I am sure I will be applying to match in two years as that's their expiry date).

I bought First Aid 2013, Kaplan Notes from Amazon and trying to find Kaplan videos as they are very expensive to me. I am from Top 10 on my class and very hardworker and planning to study in my 4 month vacation between Year 1 and Year 2 (from 20 May to 20 Sept).

How should I start?

Of course I will study what I've already taken in my first year, but should I expand to stuff that I will learn in year 2 or 3? I am planning to rent a house solely for studying so I am full-time available for this.

Does Question Banks have classification because for example I didn't take any pharmacology yet so I will need to only answer Anatomy, Biochem., .. etc. if I decided that I won't go ahead of myself.

I know it is a long tiring journey, but I am sure it will be WORTH it. so that's why I am starting from Year 1.

I really need to hear your opinions and recommendation as you can see, I want a very high score (260+)

I've already seen many topics here in this wonderful community but I needed to put some guidelines before starting.

Thank you

It is not about chilling out, I have a goal and I want to get it. I have over 4 months of vacation, I will take a whole month to CHILL OUT and will spend the 3 left studying.

I will start studying the basics as you said.

Thank you for your opinion.

You have a lon way to go my friend, dont rush it and take it easy. appear for step-1 after you have done ur 4th year, i wont recommend before that becoz I ve experienced it myself.
start studying kaplan books with ur course, if ur being taught anatomy, then do anatomy kaplan book and so on.
After 3rd year, then u can start any qbank, e.g kaplan qbank.
But for 3 years from now on, stick to kaplan books, forget about First Aid and any other review books, stay away from them (it will ruin ur learning) ...
And relax ... U ll get what u aim for.

Well, mhammad it's actually easy to get 260+ all you need to do is study hard and by hard i mean REALLY hard.
just do kaplan lectures=>first pass of first AID=>USMLERx=>NBME6=>KAPLANQBANK=>if you have 3 month left do firstaid, less than 3 months start UWORLD.=>during Uworld you have do to NBME.
getting 260+ isn't about how much you have done 260+ is about how you have learned material and how you can apply what you learned.
Btw, to get intro orthro 260 and rotations isn't enough, you have to have solid research expirience or phd.
if you can sit in front of a book for 10h per day during 10 months(not actually sitting, well, you have to stay FOCUSED) you'll easily get your 264.Acquire decent reserach as a medical student is much more difficult than getting 260+.
