Medicolegal and Ethics Should we tell about the husband's STD?

A 35 year old married man comes to the physician because of 2 day history of burning with urination
he tells the phisycian that he had an affair while on a business trip 2 weeks ago the next day the patient's wife telephones the physician, stating
"My husband saw you yesterday.Does he have a sexually transmitted disease ? "

Which of the following responses by the physician is most appropriate ?

a.- " I recommend that you see your gynecologist as soon as possible "
b.-" I suggest that you ask your husband if he has had any sexual relations outside the marriage "
c.-" I'm sorry, but I will need your husbands permission to discuss his care with you "
d.-" I'm sure everything is going to be all right "
e.-" Perhaps you and your husband should seek marital counseling "

IN reportable cases if would have been okay to tell the wife if the husband neglected to do so.

The q stem doesnt mention anything to confirm the STD, only burning on urination which would be something else.

sure he had an affair but doesn't mean he has an std. this is a tricky question.

the best answer IMO would be C.

The correct answer is C. Patient to doctor relationship shall kept confidential. Doctor must also repect the patient's wishes and concerns. This includes that what ever conversations they both are having, should not leak out; this builds trust between the two. Lastly, no one, regardless of relationship, has the right know aanything without the patient's permission.
