A 20-year-old man from Queensland, Australia, has developed severe bronchopneumonia. His medical history is remarkable for cystic fibrosis and frequent hospitalizations caused by bacterial pneumonia. A sputum culture on blood and Ashdown media reveal wrinkled colonies that are oxidase positive. Gram staining shows gram-negative, bipolarly staining rods that resemble safety pins. What is the most likely diagnosis?
A. Bacillus anthracis B. Burkholderia pseudomallei C. Haemophilus influenzae D. Pasteurella multocida E. Pseudomonas aeruginosa

due to this w can easily rule out bacillus anthracis, h.infuenzae, and pseudomonas. I was confused between pasteurella and burkholderia, but since i had read bipolar staining for burkholderia. (another bacteria typically associated with bipolar staining is yersinia pestis) answer is B. |

Yes B seems to be correct. Where do you get these kind of questions from. Very interesting! Thanks.
