Question Is this a good study plan?

Hi guys,
I need your input on this. I've already finished physiology (first read) so i was talking to a friend who recently got a 99 and he chalked out this plan for me. It seems really risky, but effective at the same time. I need your help on this...

October:- Biochem - 15 days, Anatomy - 15 days

November:- Micro + Immuno - 7 days, Behavioral Science - 6 days, Pharmacology - 15-18 days

December:- Pahtology (from kaplan) - 12 days

Mid December - End of Feb:- Kaplan Q bank, Uworld - He says i should do this after my first read so that i know what to pay attention to in my second read.

March + April:- Kaplan 2nd read + Goljan + First Aid

May 1st:- NBME block 3
May 2nd:- NBME block 5

May 4th:- Exam

I'd say skip the Kaplan patho and start with Goljan right away. Also don't bother with Kaplan Qbank, just do UWorld and make sure you do it thoroughly (e.g. more than once and retain the info). Also try to start on First Aid as soon as you finish the subject reviews and definitely try to go thru FA as many times as possible. I would also suggest doing NBME forms 6 and 7

Just my 2 cent.
Good luck!

Your plan looks good - I'd suggest doing both Goljan and Kaplan for path if you can... Also, your plan is a little anatomy and biochem heavy.. I'd trim that down to maybe 10 days each and put the remaining 10 days into accommodating Goljan after you do Kaplan path.

Ultimately - what works for you isn't going to be the same as what worked for your friend, but you'll figure that out as you do questions along the way and adjust accordingly.

Check out the Taus method above in the pdf file in the thread - it seems to work for a lot of people also. Good luck!

I suppose why i'm giving biochem and anat 15 days is cuz of the videos. I'm sure you've noticed how the instructors indulge in pointless talk so much...

I have - and if you look at the poll here you'll see that many of the users here argue that you don't need to watch all the videos. I have heard of someone on these forums - and understand that I don't advocate this - but someone on these forums actually went to write their step without even studying biochem let alone spending 15 days on the videos...

Anyway - check out these links - maybe they'll help you decide as well...

Do we need to watch Kaplan Videos?

They're not definitive at all with their opinions in those threads. It seems more like a "this is what i think, now do it and let us know if it worked out" kinda deal :P

Yeah- that's true - it's more to give you a general gist of what you could be doing. I'd personally recommend the most amount of your effort be spent on the Qbanks - Definitely do UW, of course, but if you can, do Kaplan and consult as well.

That right there is close to 10,000 questions as it stands and if you really absorb all the explanations then you should be fine no matter what other resources you choose for the various topics.

I'd add Goljan path to the Kaplan set but not much more than that. If you can eat that up 1st reading in 2.5 months or so, you're well on your way my friend.

Ohh - and one other thing that I didn't do and I keep pushing my test date further and further back - definitely schedule breaks. You're going to need them. Oddly enough- other people's lives don't stop when we start studying for the step and we're expected to be a part of it sometimes so even if you can say no to everything, things come up - budget for that

Cool

@ ashishkabir.....nicely said, especially the part about scheduled breaks!

I was pushed into doing a gig by family, relatives and guests when my parents had a gathering and I was rushed back from the library b/c ppl wanted some entertainment and that everyone says "How come he's in town and we never see him" FML....lol

but I guess if I look at the positives at least now a lot of ppl know that I can sing and play the guitar well! but still, I hate being Badgered! BAH Hambug!

I agree to this part, in the last 2 months i have started to study, my friends have actually come and stayed in my room eating my time in studies apart from others wanting to organize more parties than before for which i was compelled to invite. I don't know why i am ranting here, its not like we are in agony aunt forum here but this bit reminded me the very basic thing which i keep on forgetting.

Oh man, I couldn't have agreed with you more. I can relate to every word you said there. Good luck to you!
God bless :sorry:

haha yea. For me, it has been running the house chores and waking up in the middle of my sleep to drop and pick my brother up from school, which completely leaves me groggy and not motivated for the rest of the day. Sadly, nobody understands
